Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Wallin Scores Twice to Give Women's Ice Hockey 4-2 Win over Neumann

ASTON, PA (Jan. 26, 2024) - - Aspen Wallin's two short-handed goals not only led the King's College women's ice hockey team to victory 4-2 over United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponent Neumann University tonight at IceWorks Skating Complex, but also put her name in the record books as she set the program record for short-handed goals in a single game. Lucy Beal and Amanda Sokol also tallied a goal each for the Monarchs. King's is now 3-12-1 overall and 2-10-1 in UCHC play this season.

The Monarchs came out on the ice hungry to score from the puck drop and created several offensive opportunities for themselves, but were unable to capitalize on them. King's outshot Neumann 25-7 in the first period alone, however the Monarchs could not find the back of the net. The first period ended in a 0-0 draw.

Both the Monarchs and the Knights started the second period looking to put one on the scoreboard and went head-to-head for the 10 minutes of play before Wallin scored her first goal of the evening. After King's received a penalty and were down a player on the ice, Wallin scored a short-handed goal unassisted to put the Monarchs up 1-0 just over halfway into the period with 10:33 on the clock. Sokol followed suit shortly after scoring her goal with just 2 minutes left in the period with an assist from Wallin, giving King's a 2-0 lead going into the final period.

Despite going into the final 20 minutes of play with the lead, the Monarchs could not hold the Knights off for long. Neumann scored its first goal of the night just 38 second into the third period, changing the scoreboard to 2-1. King's responded shortly after when Beal scored the Monarch's third goal just 4:08 into play and was assisted by Sokol and Maddie Vaughan to put King's up 3-1. The Knights tightened their trail just five minutes later to score their second goal, however they were unable to find the back of the net for an equalizer. Instead, Wallin scored yet again with less than a minute left for another unassisted short-handed goal, and King's won 4-2 over Neumann.

Haley Packer was the winning goalie and tallied 20 saves in net. Dianna Duncan led the Monarchs' defense with two blocks on the evening.

King's takes the ice tomorrow for the second game of the UCHC series against Neumann back at IceWorks Skating Complex at 2 pm Jan. 27.
