Women's Ice Hockey Loses Second Game of Series to Stevenson

PITTSTON, PA (Jan. 6, 2024) - - King's College women's ice hockey team dropped its second game of a two game series 4-2 against Stevenson University this afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre. This was a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match up.

Both teams showed strong defense through the entire first period of play before the Mustangs scored the first goal of the day with just 51 seconds left for going into the second. The Monarchs came out hungry for an equalizer in the second period and found the back of the net 5:45 into play. Lucy Beal intercepted the puck and carried it down the ice to score an unassisted goal in power play for King's to tie things up 1-1.

After ending the second period in a 1-1 tied, the Monarchs earned the first lead of the day just 36 seconds into the final period. Abby Barlocker scored another unassisted goal to put King's ahead 2-1. The Monarchs were able to hold off the Mustangs for six minutes before they found the back of the net for a short-handed goal and to tie things up again 2-2. Stevenson scored again to steal the lead with 11:27 on the clock. In an attempt to tie the game and go into overtime, the Monarchs pulled their goalie to add and extra skater, but the Mustangs intercepted a pass to get a break away and scored their fourth goal on an empty net. Stevenson ultimately won the game 4-2.

Hayley Packer had a strong showing in goal as she tallied 28 saves. Nine different Monarchs added blocks in the loss, including two from Lily Beauchesne. On offense, King's tallied 28 shots and had 25 face off wins.

The Monarchs are back in Revolution Ice Centre on Friday Jan. 12 for the first game of another UCHC two-games series against Manhattanville College at 7 pm.
