First Quarter Slows Women's Hoops at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA (January 8, 2024) -- The host Arcadia University came out of the gates firing, and a slow start stumbled the King's College women's basketball team in a 73-48 setback in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match up in Glenside on Monday. The Monarchs stand at 3-10 overall and 0-2 in the conference standings, while the Knights bounce back to improve to 12-1 overall and 1-1 in MAC Freedom play.

King's (3-10, 0-2 MAC Freedom) got on the board first on a jumper from Brenna Costello 1:30 into the contest before both teams hit a scoring drought over the next 3:22 of action. Arcadia (12-1, 1-1 MAC Freedom) put up a three from Hanna Rhoades, but the Monarchs answered with a fast break bucket from Gianna Dickson. The Knights hit their stride down the stretch as the Monarchs trailed, 19-7, at the end of the first. Arcadia continued to hit their stride offensively, but King's battled back from a 32-13 deficit with 5:22 to go in the half thanks to four points from Dickson and a triple from Kathy Shepherd as the Knights maintained a 37-20 edge at the break.

Another three from Shepherd and a score from Cadie Lewis early allowed the Monarchs to close the gap, but the Knights maintained their edge throughout the final 20 minutes of play as King's fell, 73-48, in the MAC Freedom match up.
