WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 16, 2024) -- The King's College field hockey team strung together a strong fourth-quarter effort, but the Monarchs came up shy in a 3-0 setback to Lebanon Valley College in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Wednesday night. With the loss at McCarthy Stadium, the Monarchs drop to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Flying Dutchmen improved to 12-1 with a 2-0 MAC Freedom mark.

The visitors came out firing to start the contest, earning the game's first penalty corner 1:24 into the game to open up a flurry of attempts. Bollinger made a pair of saves over the first wave, but Lebanon Valley (12-1, 2-0 MAC Freedom) found their space with a goal by Reese Arnold in the sixth minute. King's (4-10, 0-2 MAC Freedom) got their first look at a score with their own corner just over a minute later, but
Shaylee Heffron's shot from outside the circle was blocked as the Monarchs trailed, 1-0, at the first break.

It was a similar story in the second as the Dutchmen brought the pressure, but Bollinger and the King's defense remained steady before a man-down goal found the back of the cage 8:14 into the second to put Lebanon Valley ahead, 2-0. The Monarchs earned a corner and put a shot on frame down the stretch, but their efforts came up shy as King's faced a 2-0 deficit heading into halftime.

King's battled through the third despite allowing another score 6:40 into the frame, but it the hosts came alive in the fourth to out shoot Lebanon Valley 4-2 and earn a 5-1 edge in penalty corners. The Dutchmen recorded the first shot of the quarter, but after a green card against the visitors the Monarchs picked up the intensity and earned four penalty corners that resulted in four shots. Lebanon Valley's defense remained steady through the onslaught as they handed King's the 3-0 setback on Wednesday night in conference play.

Heffron led the Monarchs with three shots, including two on goal, while
Melanie Tlatenchi,
Katey Shoemaker, and
Emma Clark all added their own shots. Bollinger totaled eight saves in 38:56 of action, while
Hannah Hagan made a pair of saves while holding the Dutchmen scoreless across the final 21:04 of the contest.

Three different Dutchmen got in the scoring column as Jenna Angstadt scored on a team-high five shots, while Gracie Johnson also tallied a goal off four shots. Ella Weidenhammer finished with a save and the win in the cage.

The Monarchs return to the turf on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales University. Action is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. in the MAC Freedom contest.
