Men’s Ice Hockey Drops Home Opener to SUNY Potsdam

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 1, 2024) – The King's College men's ice hockey team fell 4-1 to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs begin the season with a 0-1-0 start and hand the Bears their first win of the 2024-25 campaign, making them 1-0-0.

Potsdam's Garrett McCabe put the Bears on the board early with an unassisted goal 3:24 into the first period. King's had 12 shots with senior goalie Matt Bidini making 18 saves in net for the Monarchs through 20 minutes.

With an assist from sophomore forward Jayden Baldinelli, senior forward Cameron Bauer scored the equalizing goal 2:05 into the second period to make it 1-1. Shortly after, at 3:15, King's and Potsdam players were sent to the box as Kent Lee and Jack McCandless were penalized for slashing. King's had their first power play opportunity of the season at 4:52 as Potsdam's Payton Felix received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but the Monarchs were unable to convert. Jack Loran scored at 7:34 in the second to extend the Bears' lead to 2-1 with assists from Owen Watson and Finnegan Kilmurray. The second power play opportunity for the Monarchs came at 13:53 as Samuel De Mauro was charged for tripping. King's was unable to find the back of the net and entered the second intermission trailing 2-1.  

King's senior defenseman Erik Borschevsky was sent to the box with a tripping penalty at 8:03 in the third. At 12:13, Potsdam's Will O'Brien and Jakub Hall connected to set Jack McCandless up with a shot that cleared past Bidini to make it 3-1. Another interference call sent Mathieu Parent to the penalty box at 14:04. The Monarchs left an empty net for the last two minutes of the game and Andrew Blanchard scored from center ice in the last minute of play. The 4-1 score stood in favor of SUNY Potsdam as time expired.

Through 60 minutes, Ethan Hersant led both teams with 15 faceoff wins. Luke Babilon, Teodor Benno Vaage and Stefan Lakoseljac each recorded one block.
King's is back in action next Friday as they host the Colonels of Wilkes University at Revolution Ice Centre at 7 p.m.
