PITTSTON, PA (November 15, 2024) – The King's College women's ice hockey team posted their first win of the 2024-25 campaign after beating the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University 2-0 on Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre. With the win in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match up, the Monarchs move to 1-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the MAC, while the Golden Wolves lose their first of the season and fall to 4-1-0 and 2-1-0 in the conference.
Only 30 seconds into the first period, Alvernia's Riley Hill was penalized two minutes for tripping. The Monarchs were unable to convert on the power play, but still tallied five shots on goal. Soon after,
Lucy Beal scored her fifth career goal 6:41 into the period with an assist from
Kait Wolf. Alvernia's Julia Franklin was sent to the penalty box at 13:38 to put the Monarchs on another power play. King's tallied six more saves through the last seven minutes of play, but the score remained 1-0 going into the first intermission.
Four penalties came in the second period as Sofia King was sent to the box for tripping at 2:04,
Emma Besa and Carolyn Burton were charged with misconduct at 4:26 and
Kait Wolf received a penalty for hooking at 12:39. The 1-0 score in favor of King's stood going into the second intermission.
In the third period of play,
Maddie Vaughan scored an even strength goal off an assist from
Sammi Stead to extend the lead to 2-0 at 7:02.
Emma Besa was penalized with hooking at 8:33,
Amanda Sokol with cross checking at 10:49, Alvernia's Emma Hart with interference at 11:10 and
Becca Allen with tripping at 12:56. The Golden Wolves were operating with an empty net for the last three minutes of regulation, but Senior goalkeeper
Syd Dahl recorded 14 saves in the third period in 30 on the night to hand Alvernia its first loss of the season.
Ani Quindipan and
Amanda Sokol both tallied three blocks each with the team totaling 16 through 60 minutes of play. Senior Captain
Maddie Vaughan finished the night with eight out of the team's 19 total faceoff wins.
The Monarchs host the Golden Wolves again tomorrow, November 16 at the Revolution Ice Centre. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
