Stead Scores Twice in 5-1 Win Over Golden Wolves

PITTSTON, PA (November 16, 2024) – The King's College women's ice hockey team posted their second-straight win of the 2024-25 campaign after beating the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre. With the win in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup, the Monarchs improve to 2-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the MAC, while the Golden Wolves fall to 4-2-0 and 2-2-0 with the loss. Sophomore forward Sammi Stead recorded two goals and one assist on the afternoon.

About nine minutes into the first period, Amanda Sokol was penalized two minutes for roughing, putting the Golden Wolves on their first power play of the game. Alvernia's Addy Gularte put Alvernia on the board with assists from Emma Hart and Sydney Bradley at 10:19. Less than a minute later, the Monarchs answered back as Abby Barlocker scored, assisted by Jordan Dittmar and Brighton Wallin, to even the score at 1-1. Sikke Ask was charged with back-to-back tripping penalties, sending her to the box at 16:14 and 19:46 with time carrying into the second period.

With assists from Sammi Stead and Amanda Sokol, Maddie Vaughan scored her second goal of the season at 4:01 in the second period. Two Golden Wolves, Laila Tosi and Emma Hart were penalized for tripping at 8:54, giving the Monarchs a five-on-three opportunity.  King's tallied three shots before Lucy Beal was eventually able to net the fourth shot with another assist from Sokol at 10:17 to give the Monarchs the 3-1 lead. Two late penalties on both Victoria Fleury-Wright at 18:07 for body checking and Sikke Ask at 18:29 for roughing send the teams into the second intermission with penalties to serve at the start of the third period.

Alvernia's Kaili Klimas was charged for tripping at 9:20 in the last period of play. At 13:47, with help from Kait Wolf, Stead scored an even-strength goal to extend the Monarchs lead to 4-1. The Golden Wolves pulled their goalie, Juju Rodgers, at 16:01 in the third. Seconds later, at 16:08, Stead scored an empty net, short-handed, unassisted goal to post her second of the game.

Goalkeeper Syd Dahl totaled 24 saves on the afternoon with a high of ten coming in the third period. Jordan Dittmar went 13-11 on faceoffs and Lucy Beal and Aspen Wallin both tallied two blocks as the team finished with eight through the 60 minutes of play.

The Monarchs next travel to Alston, PA to face Neumann College at IceWorks Skating Complex at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 22.
