ASTON, PA (NOVEMBER 22, 2024) - The King's College women's ice hockey team tied the Knights of Neumann University 2-2 Friday night at the IceWorks Skating Complex. After scoring the lone goal in five rounds of a shootout to the tie it up in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup, the Monarchs move to 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the MAC, while the Knights move to 1-5-1 and 0-4-1 with the tie.
The Knights wasted no time as Kaylynn Savoy scored off an assist from Cecilia Mick at 1:18 in the first period. King's received a team penalty for too many players on the ice at 4:20 and
Sammi Stead was sent to the box for a hit from behind at 5:42. Savoy and Gia Santorello set Charlotte Labre up for a power play goal at 6:02 to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Knights spend much of the second period in the penalty box as Gabby Massa was charged for tripping at 6:18, Kaila Booth with slashing at 8:52 and Trish Dan with tripping at 9:34. With some help from
Sammi Stead,
Lucy Beal was able to put the Monarchs on the board at 9:57 with a power play goal to cut their lead in half.
Emma Besa received a penalty for roughing at 16:34 and Kenna Sanders was charged with tripping at 18:42.
Aspen Wallin scored the third power play goal of the game, the second for the Monarchs, off an assist from
Amanda Sokol at 19:34 to end the second period tied 2-2.
Becca Allen was penalized for kneeing at 5:33, Cecilia Mich for tripping at 6:48 and Emma Tauken for body checking at 19:45. The third period was scoreless, sending the teams into overtime with the 2-2 score still standing. A scoreless overtime period resulted in five shootout rounds in which
Becca Allen netted the lone goal.
Through 65 minutes, senior goaltender
Syd Dahl tallied 17 saves on the night as
Maddie Vaughan went 15-12 in faceoffs and
Ani Quindipan recorded two of five total team blocks.
The Monarchs return to IceWorks Skating Complex tomorrow, November 23 to face the Knights at 2 p.m.
