GETTYSBURG, PA (November 16, 2024) -- The King's college wrestling team withstood the fight of Gettysburg and stood victorious 21-20 on Saturday morning.
Cole Anderson took the first win in John A. Hauser Fieldhouse with a 12-4 major decision over the Bullets' Noah Hinkle in the 125-weight class. At 133,
Nick Germano defeated Kyle Collins for an 8-0 major decision win. In the 141 bout, Gettysburg gained their first set of points with Brendan Callahan having an 8-0 major decision win over
Noah Clawson.
Shane Kibler battled through three periods before falling in a 7-4 decision at 149. The Monarchs were only down one point when
MJ Turi competed in the 157-weight division and dropped Joseph Dietz in a 6-1 decision to maintain King's lead 11-7.
The Bullets answered right back with a win at 165 as Justin Richey overcame
Bret Murphy in a 6-3 decision. At 174,
Jacob Hachtmann earned a technical fall victory over Ryan Gallagher 21-5.
Frankie Theroux matched his teammate as he defeated Sam Gouveia at 184 in a 16-1 technical fall in the third period. At 197, Phil Nav pinned
Jake Bobersky in 5:33 to put Gettysburg six points away from a win.
It all came down to the heavyweights as Gettysburg needed a pin or a technical fall to either force an overtime or take the win. On the other hand, King's needed to win the match or play good defense. Simon Taylor was able to stand victorious in a 16-5 major decision over
Richard Fronheiser, but it was not enough to have a team win over the Monarchs. King's stood victorious 21-20 to bring home the first team victory of the season.
The Monarchs had three members compete in exhibition matches.
Angel Avalos fell to Torey Falkinburg in a 12-5 decision at 141.
Joe Dasti lost to Ean Wilson at 157 in a 14-1 major decision. At 197,
Jake Bobersky dropped Max Ferguson in 4:07.
King's will travel to Olivet, MI on Saturday, November 23
