Third Period Slows Women's Ice Hockey at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 9, 2024) -- Trailing just 3-2 heading into the final period, the King's College women's ice hockey team gave up a pair of goals in a 5-2 setback to Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon. With the loss in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) match up at the Toyota SportsPlex, the Monarchs drop to 0-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the MAC, while the Colonels improved to 3-1-0 and 2-0-0 in the conference.

Wilkes (3-1-0, 2-0-0 MAC) maintained much of the possession early in the first, converting 4:57 into the contest and again in the with 4:37 to play to go up, 2-0, but the Monarchs had a response. After a quick shot by Abby Barlocker, Sammi Stead cleaned up the miss and sent the puck into the back of the net to put King's (0-3-0, 0-2-0 MAC) on the board with a 2-1 deficit at the first intermission.

The pace of play went back-and-forth through much of the early parts of the second period before the Colonels scored their third tally 5:02 into the period. The Monarchs held off the attacking Wilkes, and after firing off a flurry of shots in the 16th minute, Jordan Dittmar scored on a short-handed opportunity with 2:30 to play in the second and close within one, 3-2, heading into the final break.

The final period went to the host Wilkes as they tacked on two additional goals in the frame despite a 20-save effort from Hayley Packer as the Monarchs fell, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.

Dittmar led the team with her short-handed goal, also winning 10 face offs, while Stead had three shots to go along with her goal. Both Kait Wolf and Brenna Munn blocked three shots in the contest, and Packer finished with 46 saves in goal.
