Monarchs Go 3-0 in Home Quad Meet on Saturday Afternoon

WILKES-BARRE, PA (December 14, 2024) -- The King's College wrestling team had a very successful home quad-meet on Saturday afternoon by going 3-0 in McGrane Gymnasium. The squad defeated New Jersey City 34-12, went on to beat Sussex Community College 44-4, and remained victorious with a win over Keystone 40-12.
 
vs. New Jersey City, W – 34-12
Cole Anderson took the first win of the day against Dominic Terracciano in a 1-0 decision at 125. Nick Germano lost his 133-bout to Lucas Torre in a 5-0 decision. The Gothic Knights maintained their momentum in the 141-weight division with Dean Costantino earning a 17-5 major decision win over Noah Clawson. Shane Kibler rallied the Monarchs at 149 and defeated Andy Beras in a 17-2 technical fall. At 157, MJ Turi collected a 2-0 decision victory over Zack Vera.
 
Bret Murphy lost to Fabian Acuna at 165 in a 18-2 technical fall. Jacob Hachtmann (174) and Frankie Theroux (184) tabbed wins via forfeit to put King's up 23-12. Richard Fronheiser polished off a 17-1 technical fall victory over Diego Viera at 197. In the heavyweight division, Nick Valenzano dropped Walter Thomas in 0:41 to gain the Monarchs a 34-12 win over New Jersey City.
 
vs. Sussex Community College – 44-4
The Skylanders scored first as Carson Citro defeated Cole Anderson in a 15-4 major decision at 125. Nick Germano began the Monarchs momentum with a win by pinfall over Chris Casale in 1:37 at 133. Noah Clawson outlasted Michael VanderMeulen and secured a 5-2 decision win at 141. In the 149-weight class, Shane Kibler celebrated a 4-1 decision victory over Thaylor Sibblies. MJ Turi dropped Carlos Delgado in 2:42 at 157.
 
At 165, Jordan Bentley downed Aidan Hollowich in a 17-1 technical fall. Jacob Hachtmann held on to a 14-5 major decision win over Jose Alvarenga Giron at 174. Frankie Theroux delivered an 18-0 technical fall victory against Shawn Pawlowski. Richard Fronheiser (197) and Nick Valenzano (HWT) earned wins due to forfeits. King's defeated Sussex Community College 44-4.
 
vs. Keystone – 40-12
Patrick Horvath (125) and Nick Germano (133) collected forfeit wins to start the last match of the afternoon. At 141, Noah Clawson pinned Justin Santiago in 2:47. Shane Kibler matched his teammate with a win by pinfall against Michael Palinkas in 1:40 at 149. MJ Turi stood victorious with a 12-2 major decision over Codi Bomboy.  
 
The Giants earned tallies on the board as Alex Ballantyne fell to Dalten Klinges in 2:08 at 165. Nick Costello battled hard against Mariano Monacelli at 174 and came up with a 5-2 major decision win. Frankie Theroux earned a victory at 184 due to a forfeit. Jake Bobersky collected a 6-3 major decision win over Nero Bono at 197. In the heavyweight division, Nick Valenzano fell to Rocco Arduini in 5:45. King's polished off the day with a 40-12 victory over Keystone.
 
The Monarchs witnessed 10 members participate in exhibition matches. Brian Hopkins celebrated a victory over Alvernia's Anthony Astorino by pinning the Golden Wolf in 3:30 at 149. Patrick Horvath ended the day with a 20-1 technical fall win over Alvernia's Anthony Astorino in 149 weight class. Isaiah Camacho was bested by Chance Babb of Alvernia at 157 in a 19-1 technical fall and lost to Alvernia's Myles Brown in 7-4 decision. At 165, Nick Costello pinned Alvernia's James Moffat in 3:32. Alex Ballantyne lost his 165 match to Ryan LePore of Alvernia in a 21-6 technical fall.
 
Alex Martinez was dropped by William Knapp of Alvernia in 2:04 at 174. Elijah Rivera lost at 197 to Alvernia's Jason Chiodi by pinfall in 1:37 and was pinned by Myles Brown of Alvernia in 1:44. Jake Bobersky was defeated by Brown in a 16-4 major decision at 197. At heavyweight, Ryan Tran fell to Alvernia's Owen Reeber in 1:06 and was pinned by Tyler Carter of Alvernia in 4:26. Khalil Blagmon won his first match as a Monarch over Alvernia's Tyler Carter in a 1:59 pinfall, dropped Keystone's Bryce Burkhart in 2:58, but lost his final bout to Owen Reber of Alvernia in 1:13 at the heavyweight.
 
King's will compete at the Wilkes Open on Friday, December 20th at 9 a.m. before heading into the holiday break. The squad will return to the mats after the new year on Saturday, January 4th in the Roger Williams Quad.
