Men's Volleyball Go 2-0 in Boston

BOSTON, MA (February 10, 2024) --The King's College men's volleyball team finished their road trip in Massachusetts with a weekend sweep over Fisher College (0-6). The Monarchs (9-0) defeated the Falcons 3-0 in both contests on Saturday afternoon in Pappas Gymnasium at Hellenic College.  
 
vs. Fisher College (Game One) – W, 3-0 (25-13, 25-4, 25-9)
The first set of the afternoon was a series of runs by King's. Every time Fisher looked to create an edge, the Monarchs responded back. King's had a 13-4 lead that included tallies by Gavin Gilhool (Jr.), Greg Bousquet (So.), Ben Maskiell (So.), Logan Dougherty (Fy.), Rich Alvarez (Jr.), and Andrew Bafuma (Jr.). The Falcons were able to create a 3-1 jolt. Though the Monarchs controlled the rest of the set. After a final kill by Nick Greenawalt (Sr.), the King's won 25-13.
 
The second set was much like the first and the Monarchs were in control the whole time. King's remained victorious with a score of 25-4 after a kill by Robert Oppedisano (Sr.).
 
In the third and final set, Fisher took the first point. Though the Monarchs made a 6-0 run that comprised of points by Gilhool, Bousquet, and Aidan Kraus (Jr.). The Falcons took a 5-2 push to get within three to make the score 9-6. King's prevailed by making seven points straight. Fisher looked to have an answer, but the Monarchs continued to frustrate their hosts. King's won 25-10 with the final kill from Alex Martelacci (Fy.)
 
The Monarchs finished with 34 kills, 29 assists, 11 aces, 23 digs, and a hitting percentage of .542. Alvarez and Bousquet had six kills each. Kraus led with 16 assists with one block. Maskiell had 11 helpers and five aces. Derek Perkins (Fy.) had five digs, while Bafuma and Mike Bizzoco (Sr.) followed with four.
 
The Falcons ended with eight kills, eight assists, four digs, and a hitting percentage of -.163. Eduardo Navarro produced four kills with one dig and Carlos Diaz had six helpers. Ethan Marshall, Carlos Egipcoaco, and Elvin Perez all had one dig.
 
vs. Fisher College (Game Two) – W, 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-8)
King's started off hot with a 3-0 lead that included an ace by Ben Maskiell (So.) and a kill by Nick Greenawalt (Sr.). Fisher came back with their own 2-0 push. Yet the Monarchs were not going to let that slide as they went on another 7-1 jolt with help from Logan Dougherty (Fy.), Greg Bousquet (So.), and Gavin Gilhool (Jr.). King's were in control from then-on-out, every time the Falcons looked to create some momentum, the Monarchs had an answer. The visitors were able to earn the last five points thanks to kills by Dougherty, Bousquet, and Gilhool. King's won the first set 25-8.
 
The second set was a duplicate of the first set as the Monarchs were on top with a score of 18-7.  Fisher produced back-to-back points, but King's remained calm and once again polished off a 25-9 victory that comprised of numerous kills by Gilhool, Dougherty, Bousquet, Rich Alvarez (Jr.), Greenawalt, and Alex Martelacci (Fy.).
 
The Monarchs were firing on all cylinders in the third and final set as they came out into a 23-5 lead. The Falcons would put a buffer on King's putting a lid on the matchup, but the squad was able to finish the third after a kill by Robert Oppedisano (Sr.) to celebrate a 25-8 win.
 
The Monarchs produced 39 kills, 35 assists, 17 aces, 32 digs, and a hitting percentage of .397. Bousquet had eight kills with a hitting percentage of .636. Greenawalt had seven kills and six aces. Gilhool and Dougherty also followed with seven kills. Maskiell passed out 15 assists and completed three aces. Aidan Kraus (Jr.) dished out 13 helpers. Mike Bizzoco (Sr.) pushed the defense with five digs.
 
The Falcons had nine kills, six assists, three blocks, 28 digs, and a hitting percentage of .000. Christopher Sheppard and Carlos Egipcoaco had three kills. Eduardo Navarro had a team high of three assists and eight digs.
 
King's will continue on the road as they will take in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Widener at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th. The squad will travel to Brooklyn on Sunday, February 18th to battle against Mount Saint Vincent at 1 p.m. and Pratt Institute at 3 p.m.
