WILKES-BARRE, PA (Feb. 12, 2024) - - With just one week until the Monarchs' season-opener, King's College baseball, under head coach Jerry Greeley in his 22
nd year, announces its official 2024 season schedule. This year's schedule features 38 games, including 21 conference match ups and a spring break trip to The Ripken Experience Baseball Tournament.
The Monarchs will open the season against Clarks Summit on Feb. 20, followed by their home-opening doubleheader against Penn State Wilkes-Barre Saturday Feb. 24. The following week King's will head down the road to Wilkes on Feb. 28 before one last doubleheader against Penn State Scranton before traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC, for The Ripken Experience Baseball Tournament. There, the Monarchs will play five games including one doubleheader. They open the tournament with Eastern Nazarene College on March 7 before taking on Cairn for a double header on March 8. King's then plays Albertus Magnus March 9 and then finally Manhattanville on March 10 before heading back north.
The Monarchs get right back to work March 13 for a game against Penn State Hazleton at Lipo Field before beginning Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. King's leads off with another home game for its first three-game set against FDU-Florham Friday March 15 before heading to New Jersey for a doubleheader against the Devils on Saturday March 16.
King's will have another single game on Monday against Penn State Wilkes-Barre for their third match up of the season before heading to Hoboken, NJ, for the first of another three-game MAC Freedom series against Stevens on Thursday. Stevens then travels to Wilkes-Barre on Saturday for a doubleheader against King's on March 23. King's ends the month of March with a midweek MAC Freedom series against Misericordia with a single game on Wednesday March 26 at Tambur Field, then the Cougars come back to Lipo Field the next day for a doubleheader.
After a weekend off, the Monarchs kick off April hosting a single game against Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday April 2 followed by another MAC Freedom three-game series against Delaware Valley. The Monarchs host the Aggies on Friday afternoon before traveling to Doylestown, PA, for a doubleheader on Saturday. King's returns to Lipo Field Wednesday April 10 for a second game against Clarks Summit before hosting MAC Freedom opponent Lebanon Valley on Friday for a single game before heading to Annville, PA, for a doubleheader against the Flying Dutchmen on Saturday.
King's returns to Lipo Field just a few days later to host Marywood in a nonconference match up on April 16 before heading to Arcadia for the first game of yet another MAC Freedom three-game set on Friday. The Monarchs then host the Knights for a doubleheader on Saturday April 20. King's will stay in Wilkes-Barre for the next two games as the Monarchs host Muhlenberg Wednesday April 24 and then DeSales for the first game of their last MAC Freedom series of the regular season on Friday. King's then heads down to Weiland Park for its last doubleheader on Saturday before the MAC Freedom Tournament begins.
The top four MAC Freedom teams will make the conference tournament, which kicks off the month of May starting with the first semifinal game on Friday, May 3. A second semifinal game will be the next day on Saturday May 4. The conference finals will be held the following weekend on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. The higher seed will host all three games of each best-of-three series. Game one of each series is scheduled for Friday afternoon, while game two and the "if necessary" game three will be on Saturday. The Monarchs look to make the MAC Freedom tournament for the first time since 2021.
