WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 23, 2024) -- The King's College women's lacrosse team fall in a Friday night thriller to the Lions of Bryn Athyn 10-9 in McCarthy Stadium. The Monarchs are now 1-1 overall heading into Spring Break.

Bryn Athyn (1-0) was able to score the first point of the matchup thanks to Sabrina Brock at 14:30. Just two minutes after, King's responded back with a goal by
Kyleigh Dunworth (Jr.) and an assist by
Carli Komorowski (Jr.) at 12:13. The Lions went on to find the back of the net two more times to create a two-point cushion. As the final three minutes of the quarter was dwindling down, the Monarchs scored back-to-back goals from
Olivia Benner (Sr.) and Dunworth to tie it. The score was 3-3 heading into the second quarter.

King's maintained the momentum at the start of the second quarter as
Sarah Schultz (So.) added a tally to the scoreboard at 13:48. Though Bryn Athyn answered back with their own two goals by Brock and Maria Storck to even the playing field. It was scoreless for eight straight minutes when Stork netted her second goal. Sarah Shultz came back with another goal that was assisted by her sister
Emilee Schultz (So.) at 1:17. The score was 6-5 heading into halftime.

The Monarchs waisted no time as they started the quarter with a man up and netted a goal by
Ashley Dias (Jr.) and an assist by
Chloe Burke (Jr.). The Lions made a 3-1 run before King's scored the last goal by
Emilee Schultz to end the quarter down one 9-8.

The Monarchs' defense stayed strong for nine minutes when Brock gained another tally on the board. King's were able to get into enemy territory after three straight yellow cards. The Monarchs capitalized with a man up and Dias scored her second goal of the evening. Time unfortunately ran out and King's lost 10-9.

Sarah Schultz, and Dunworth all had two goals.
Maria Schneider (So.) had a team high of three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Burke had seven draw controls and
Sidney Bush (Sr.) had a career-high of 17 saves.

The Lions' Brock earned four goals and two assists. Shea Gormley and Storck both added their own three goals. Gormley also had eight draw controls. In the net, Chloe Munyon created 12 saves for the night.

King's will have a week break before traveling to take on Virginia Wesleyan at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 3
rd. The squad will be back home on March 7
th at 5 p.m. to host Mount Saint Vincent in McCarthy Stadium.
