WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 3, 2024) -- The King's College women's basketball team battled through the first three periods before out scoring Arcadia University 19-16 in the final quarter. The late push came up short in a 62-45 setback in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game in McGrane Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs stand at 3-18 overall and 0-10 in the conference, while the Knights improved to 18-3 with a 7-3 MAC Freedom mark.
Â
Arcadia (18-3, 7-3 MAC Freedom) opened the game with a 7-0 spurt before a bucket from
Gianna Dickson midway through the quarter stopped the early run by the Knights. King's (3-18, 0-10 MAC Freedom) trailed 21-8, but back-to-back triples from
Kathy Shepherd and
Cadie Lewis pulled the Monarchs within single digits, 23-14, with 4:24 to go in the second. The Knights put up a late 8-2 stint to end the half ahead, 31-16.
Â
The Monarchs would keep the game in reach throughout the third quarter, not allowing Arcadia to run away with the conference contest. King's closed within 53-35 on a triple from Dickson with 6:08 remaining in the contest, but despite a strong defensive effort that held the Knights to just one basket in the final 2:55 of play the Monarchs dropped the 62-45 final in McGrane Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Lewis led the Monarchs with 12 points, going 4-for-8 from the floor, with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Dickson added nine points, while

Â
King's defensively limited the Knights to 6-for-20 (30%) from beyond the arc while also forcing 11 Arcadia turnovers. The Monarchs connected for 16-of-53 from the floor, assisting on 11 of their field goals, while dominating the rebounding margin, 43-28, over the visitors.
Â
The Monarchs will head out for a two-game road stretch beginning on Wednesday night as they travel to Doylestown, Pa. to take on the Aggies of Delaware Valley University at 7:00 p.m. in MAC Freedom play.
