NEWTOWN, PA (February 7, 2024) -- On Wednesday morning, the King's College football team continued to excel on the football field and in the classroom as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced four Monarchs were named to the 2023 Football Academic All-MAC Team, including senior
Liam Carroll and juniors
Mike DiGregorio,
Nate McGlone, and
Jared Reto. The 2023 season marks the ninth consecutive year the Monarchs have placed at least one student-athlete among the top student-athletes in the MAC for that season.
A total of 23 student-athletes were named to the 2023 Football Academic All-MAC teams as recognized for their academic and athletic excellence. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote for the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success. A student-athlete must have a fall semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award.
Carroll collects his first Academic All-MAC nod as he comes off a strong campaign on the offensive line for the Monarchs. He picked up All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades at left tackle, playing and starting in all 11 games throughout the 2023 campaign and helping an offense that averaged 335.6 yards per game, including 155.7 on the ground and 179.9 in the passing game. The Easton, Pa. native posted an impressive 3.48 GPA as a history secondary education major.
DiGregorio had a breakout season as a wide receiver for the Monarchs, earning All-MAC Second Team honors and picking up his first Academic All-MAC recognition. He led the MAC in punt returns and recorded 50.6 yards per game on 44 catches for 557 yards and seven touchdowns. A criminal justice major, DiGregorio finished the Fall 2023 semester with a 3.73 GPA.
McGlone continues to rack in the post-season honors this year, picking up his first Academic All-MAC recognition to go along with his All-MAC First Team and D3football.com All Region 1 Third Team season as the center for the Monarchs offensive line unit. He appeared and started in all 11 games and rated out over 90% for the entire season, averaging a grade of 93% and allowing just one sack in the entire 2023 campaign. A Single Digit Tough member of the King's football program, McGlone achieved a 3.79 GPA as an environmental engineering major.
Reto rounds out the four honorees with his first Academic All-MAC honors and coming off an All-MAC Second Team season as a linebacker. The junior exploded for a great campaign, ranking second on the team with 77 total tackles, adding 5.0 tackles for loss, four pass break ups, two sacks, and two quarterback hurries. A D3football.com Team of the Week honoree, Reto recorded a 3.91 GPA as an exercise science major this fall.
