MYRTLE BEACH, SC (Mar. 10, 2024) - - King's College baseball fell just short to Manhattanville College 9-5 in its final game of The Ripken Experience on Sunday morning. Despite the loss,
Chase Yochem,
Zach Day and
Owen Kosar all recorded doubles. Day also tallied his 100
th career hit in the top of the sixth inning after sending a line drive through center field for a two-run single. The Monarchs leave Myrtle Beach with a 3-6 overall season record now.

The Valiants started the game with big bats after Gregory Tashik a triple to right field in their second at-bat in the bottom of the first inning to get on the scoreboard early. Manhattanville sent a sacrifice fly to right field again shortly after to earn a second RBI. The Valiants ended the inning with a single to center field for a third run and to enter the second inning with a 3-0 lead over the Monarchs.

After a short second inning for both teams, Tashik then hit double for two more RBIs to up Manhattanville's lead to 5-0 over King's. They tallied a sixth run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tashik hit a second double before King's began to make a comeback in the sixth inning.

Yochem led the charge for the Monarchs hitting a double in the top of the sixth inning to advance
Jaiden Wanamaker to third just in time for Day to send his 100
th career hit to center field to score their first two runs of the game and tighten their trail to 6-2. The Valiants hit two singles at the bottom of the inning to boost them back up to a six-run lead and ended the sixth with a 8-2 lead.

This did not deter King's however as the team continued to fight at the plate in the top of seventh. Kosar knocked a double to left field putting
Brayden Schoonmaker on third as
Jacob Sutton stepped to the plate and sent a ground ball to third allowing Schoonmaker to score and Kosar to advance to third. Yochem singled to left field for an RBI and the Monarchs' fourth run of the day. The Valiants scored only once in the bottom of the seventh after their runners advanced due to getting hit by a pitch to end the inning with a 9-4 lead over King's.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning, but the Monarchs managed to tally one last RBI in the top of the nineth before the end of the game. Day put a double in left field to send Yochem to home to score their fifth run of the day. Manhattanville ultimately came out on top with a 9-5 win over King's.

Despite King's coming up short in the end, five Monarchs recorded two hits today: Wanamaker, Yochem, Day, Schoonmaker and Kosar. Day also led King's with three RBIs on the day.
Josh Kilvitis tallied three strikeouts on the mound as Yochem,
Vincent Mattio and Kilvitis combine to allow only 10 hits between 31 batters for King's.

The Monarchs return to Lipo Field for their season home opener on Wednesday Mar. 13 against Penn State Hazelton at 4 pm.
