WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 13, 2024) -- The King's College men's volleyball team fell to #16/#19 Misericordia 3-0 in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup on Wednesday evening. The Monarchs are now 14-4 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

King's took the lead early in McGrane Gymnasium with the score showing 7-4 that included kills by
Gavin Gilhool (Jr.),
Greg Bousquet (So.), and
Logan Dougherty (Fy.). Misericordia (15-7, 2-1 MAC) came strolling back by creating a 4-2 run to tie it at 8-8. The set went back-and forth from then on, but the Cougars soon were able to take over. King's dropped the first set 25-19.

Misericordia maintained their edge through the second set. The score was 2-6 when King's made a 5-2 jolt to get within one. The Cougars answered back with another 8-3 push. Every time the Monarchs scored; their opponents would answer with two. King's were down 21-16 when
Nick Greenawalt (Sr.) and Gilhool made a monstrous block to get the crowd on their feet. Though the Cougars were able to win the second set 25-17.

The third and final set of the evening was much like the first, seeing the score become tied three separate times. The Monarchs were down three when they made a 4-1 run to tie it at 7-7 thanks to kills by Bousquet and Dougherty. Misericordia was able to regain their lead, but King's continued to pester their opponents as they tied the score back up after a kill by Dougherty and a block by Bousquet. The Cougars were not going down quietly and took the lead once more. The Monarchs looked to rally the troops after a kill by Dougherty, but ultimately lost 25-19 in the third set.

King's finished with 23 kills, 22 assists, five blocks, 27 digs, and a hitting percentage of .159. Bousquet led the squad with seven kills and eight digs. Dougherty followed with his own six kills and three digs.
Ben Maskiell (So.) dished out 20 assists and had five digs.
Mike Bizzoco (Sr.) and
Declan Larson (Sr) combined for nine digs as the libero duo.

Misericordia ended with 40 kills, 33 assists, eight aces, five blocks, 28 digs, and a hitting percentage of .291.
Jared Piontkowski had 14 kills, three aces, three blocks, and five digs. Anthony DePalma earned 12 kills, two aces, and two digs. Gannon DeFrain passed out 31 helpers. On the defensive end, Benjamin Clendening had four blocks and Alex Furlong had five digs.

The Monarchs are back in McGrane Gymnasium as they host MAC opponent Stevenson at 2 p.m. and Regis at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 16
th for Senior Day. Senior Day festivities will begin before the Regis matchup. The team will be on the road against Neumann at 6 p.m. on March 18
th.
