Shoemaker Highlights Action for Women's Track and Field at Monarch Open

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 27, 2024) -- Katey Shoemaker set a new Monarch Open and Betzler Complex record mark in the hammer throw to lead the King's College women's track and field team at their own Monarch Open. Shoemaker led a great day for the Monarchs that featured 11 individual wins, 23 top three finishes, and eight personal best marks.
 
On the Track
100 Meter Dash

The Monarchs claimed the first two spots in the event as Abigail Springer won the 100 meter dash in 13.26 seconds, while Juliet Brady posted a time of 13.68 seconds. Sophia Hahn claimed fifth in 14.00 seconds, while Lara McGlynn placed ninth in 14.85 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
It was another successful event for the Monarchs as the women claimed second-through-fifth places, led by Abigail Springer who crossed in 26.78 seconds. Juliet Brady finished third in 27.89 seconds, and Nicole Zambetti placed fourth in a personal best 28.32 seconds. Ava Butcher was next to cross in 28.46 seconds, while Sophia Hahn finished ninth in 29.63 seconds. Lara McGlynn rounded out the event for King's as she posted a time of 30.79 seconds. FDU-Florham's Bianca Burke won the event in 26.67 seconds.
 
1,500 Meter Run
Zoe Tomko won the event in 5:13.93, while Julia Johnson took third in 5:27.59. The Monarchs then rounded out the event as Mikaela Majcher finished fifth in 5:35.32, Cecilia Chipriano placed sixth in 5:52.85, and Mara Ryan took seventh in a personal best time of 6:19.31.
 
100 Meter Hurdles
Vicotria Zultevicz was the top finisher as she crossed in 16.06 seconds.
 
4x100 Meter Relay
The King's teams took the first two spots in the event, as the team of Juliet Brady, Sophia Hahn, Abigail Springer, and Laura Dainauski won the event in 51.38 seconds. The second squad of Liz Porto, Julia Johnson, Mikaela Majcher, and Zoe Tomko finished second in 58.54 seconds.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
King's won the race as the team of Ava Butcher, Nicole Zambetti, Zoe Tomko, and Laura Dainauski finished in 4:16.11.
 
In the Field
High Jump

Madison Armitage won the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters, while Victoria Zultevicz tied for fourth with a mark of 1.31 meters.
 
Long Jump
Madelynn Perfilio was the top finisher in the long jump, placing first with a mark of 5.16 meters.
 
Pole Vault
Victoria Zultevicz led a trio of Monarchs in the event as she placed second with a height of 3.25 meters, while Liz Porto and Madelynn Perfilio both cleared a height of 2.95 meters, with Perfilio setting a new personal best in the event. Alexis Merola of Stevens won the event with a mark of 3.25 meters.
 
Triple Jump
Madelynn Perfilio won the triple jump with a mark of 10.43 meters.
 
Discus Throw
Brandy Varner and Delaney Hilferty finished first and second, respectively, as Varner recorded a throw of 39.91 meters while Hilferty posted a personal best toss of 38.28 meters. Caitlin Krik then took fourth with a mark of 35.44 meters, and Katey Shoemaker placed fifth with a personal best throw of 34.97 meters. Anna Bellucci claimed seventh with a personal best toss of 32.82 meters, and Roni McClelland cracked the top 10 in ninth with a mark of 26.74 meters. Issy Lebrun posted a throw of 24.33 meters, and Dianna Duncan finished with a toss of 21.91 meters. Madison Armitage rounded out the discus throw with a toss of 16.67 meters.
 
Hammer Throw
The Monarchs swept the top four spots in the event, led by Katey Shoemaker with a winning toss and Monarch Open and Betzler Complex record of 48.92 meters, while Delaney Hilferty finished second with a throw of 44.30 meters. Brandy Varner took third with a personal best mark of 43.79 meters, and Anna Bellucci placed fourth with a toss of 43.68 meters. Caitlin Kirk rounded out the King's throwers with a mark of 39.21 meters.
 
Javelin Throw
Delaney Hilferty was the top finisher for King's as she placed third overall with a mark of 32.20 meters, while Issy Lebrun placed sixth with a toss of 19.39 meters. Dianna Duncan rounded out the event with a throw of 16.88 meters. Misericordia's Morgan Stover won the event with a mark of 34.83 meters.
 
Shot Put
The Monarchs swept the top three spots, led by Brandy Varner with her winning toss of 11.90 meters, while Caitlin Kirk placed second with a personal best mark of 10.76 meters. Roni McClelland finished third with a throw of 10.33 meters.

The Monarchs will begin their final preparations for the upcoming 2024 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, beginning Thursday, May 2 at Widener University.
