D'Amato, Stettler, No. 3 Doubles Pick Up Wins in MAC Freedom Opener

CENTER VALLEY, PA (April 6, 2024) -- Hailey D'Amato and Sarah Stettler earned singles wins, while the No. 3 doubles pair of Emma Rooney and Anagrace Schwartz collected the third victory as the King's College women's tennis team fell, 6-3, to DeSales University in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opener. With the setback, the Monarchs fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAC Freedom, while the Bulldogs improved to 6-2 with a 1-0 conference mark.
 
D'Amato collected her singles victory in No. 2 action over Hope Hoppe with set wins of 6-3 and 6-2, while Stettler defeated Tara Clark at No. 6 singles, 6-2 and 6-0. The doubles victory at No. 3 doubles from Rooney and Schwartz came in an 8-5 decision over the Bulldogs pair.
 
In singles play, Ashley Kenia battled at No. 1 singles with Morgan Landau, falling in the first set, 6-2, before taking the second, 6-1. Kenia ultimately fell in the third, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Jackie Costello was downed by sets of 6-3 and a tough 7-6 (2) second to Alyssa Vandenberge. Carlee Dellose dropped decisions of 6-2 and 6-0 at No. 4 singles to Lilah Maus, while Rooney lost by sets of 7-5 and 6-1 at No. 5 singles to Emily Prokopovich.
 
Doubles action saw Kenia and D'Amato drop an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, while Costello and Dellose fell in a close 8-6 match at No. 2 doubles.
 
King's will be back on the courts tomorrow morning as they are set to host a non-conference tri-match with Elizabethtown and Rutgers-Camden. Action at Kirby Park is set to begin at approximately 9:00 a.m.
