WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 7, 2024) -- The King's College women's tennis team battled their way to a 2-0 sweep in their non-conference tri-match on Sunday, defeating Elizabethtown College, 5-4, before taking down Rutgers-Camden, 6-3. With the sweep, the Monarchs improved to 4-6 overall, while the Blue Jays stand at 6-6 with their split, and the Scarlet Raptors fall to 6-5.

vs. Elizabethtown – W, 5-4:
King's (4-6) earned four of their five victories in singles play.
Ashley Kenia defeated Olivia Richards at No. 1 singles, 6-3 and 6-1, while
Hailey D'Amato fell in the opening set, 7-6, before rallying for set wins of 6-1 and 10-3 over Haley Bishop at No. 2 singles.
Carlee Dellose handled Kaylee Mustard at No. 4 singles, 6-3 and 6-3, and
Sarah Stettler picked up victories of 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 6 singles against Katie Balzano.

The No. 1 doubles pair of Kenia and D'Amato collected the final win in the match, 8-4, over the Blue Jays pair.

Jackie Costello fell in a tough 6-3 and 6-0 match at No. 3 singles to Gabriella Palladini, while
Emma Rooney won her first set, 6-3, before dropping sets of 7-6 and 10-7 to Morgan Bleicher at No. 5 singles. In No. 2 doubles play, Costello and Dellose faced an 8-1 setback to the Blue Jays, while Rooney and
Anagrace Schwartz fell, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.

vs. Rutgers-Camden – W, 6-3:
The Monarchs claimed five of the six singles bouts in the match. Kenia fought her way to set wins of 7-5 and 6-4 over Katie Moore at No. 1 singles, and D'Amato downed Ashton Sirko in the No. 2 singles match by a pair of 6-1 sets. Dellos rallied after dropping the first, 6-3, to win the next two, 6-2 and 10-3, at No. 4 singles over Alyssa Peacock, and Rooney swept Bella Martinez at No. 5 singles by a pair of 6-0 sets. Stettler secured the final singles win in No. 6 action, 6-0 and 6-3, over Nicoletta Troilo.

Rooney and Schwartz earned the lone doubles win with an 8-4 victory over the Scarlet Raptors pair.

At No. 3 singles, Costello fell by a pair of 6-4 sets to Jayde Sue Silva. In doubles play, Kenia and D'Amato lost a tough 8-6 bout at No. 1 doubles, while Costello and Dellose also fell in a close 8-7 match at No. 2 doubles.

King's will return to Kirby Park to open their two-match home stand on Tuesday afternoon as they play host to MAC Freedom foe Misericordia University. Action is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
