King's Cruises to Tri-Match Sweep over Elizabethtown and Rutgers-Camden

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 7, 2024) -- The King's College men's tennis team picked up two great team wins on Sunday, defeating Elizabethtown College, 6-3, and Rutgers-Camden, 8-1, at Kirby Park in non-conference play. With the sweep, the Monarchs improved to 4-7 overall, while the Blue Jays stand at 5-7 with the split, and the Scarlet Raptors drop to 0-5.
 
vs. Elizabethtown – W, 6-3:
King's (4-7) earned four wins in singles play, beginning with a victory at No. 1 singles by Logan Greogry, 7-5 and 6-2, over Max Lauver. John Toussaint earned a win at No. 3 singles by a pair of 6-0 victories over Sam Langer, while Brendan Turowski defeated Isaac Reichenbach at No. 5 singles, 6-1 and 6-4. Cody Zheng collected the finals singles victory in No. 6 action over Kyler Henne, winning the first 6-0, falling in the second 6-0, and winning the final, 10-6.
 
The Monarchs also took two out of the three doubles matches in the win. Gregory and Toussaint defeated the Blue Jays pair, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, and Patrick Pech and Aidan Temple claimed an 8-1 victory over Elizabethtown (5-7) at No. 2 doubles.
 
Pech dropped his No. 3 singles contest to Stefanos Billis by sets of 6-4 and 6-1, while Temple fell by scores of 6-4 and 7-5 in a battle at No. 4 singles to Luke Paulson. Turowski and Jacob Nelson lost in No. 3 doubles play, 8-2, to Elizabethtown.
                                                                               
vs. Rutgers-Camden – W, 8-1:
The Monarchs wrapped up their sweep on Sunday with a dominant effort over Rutgers-Camden (0-5). Gregory at No. 1 singles with Edward McWilliams and Pech at No. 2 singles with Christopher Abacan both defeated their foes by sets of 6-0 and 6-1. Both Toussaint at No. 3 singles with Thanh Ngo and Turowski at No. 5 singles with Matthew Tepfer posted a pair of 6-0 victories. Temple at No. 4 singles with John Brady and Mike Bizzoco at No. 6 singles with Tyrone King also swept their foes by a pair of 6-1 margins.
 
In doubles play, Gregory and Toussaint downed the Scarlet Raptor pair, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles, and Pech and Temple defeated the No. 2 team, 8-0. The lone setback in the victory for King's came at No. 3 doubles as Alex Nole and Zackary Bedwell dropped an 8-6 decision to Rutgers-Camden.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Misericordia University in MAC Freedom play. Action at Kirby Park is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
