WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 13, 2024) -- The King's College women's volleyball team defeated the Lions of Bryn Athyn 3-0 on Friday evening.
Viannce Sinocruz (So.) produced a double-double to help push the Monarchs to their sixth straight win in McGrane Gymnasium this season.
Bryn Athyn (0-5) scored the first point of the contest, but King's quickly took over with a 10-2 run that included kills by
Jessica Menze (Fy.),
Bella Salvia (Jr.), and
Emma Bolich (So.). The Lions began chipping away at their deficit by going back-and-forth with their hosts. The Monarchs (6-0) maintained their momentum by scoring 12 unanswered points to make it 24-7. Bryn Athyn added a tally to the scoreboard to keep the set alive, but after a kill by Salvia, King's won 25-8.
The Monarchs continued to have control over their visitors with a 20-6 start of the second set thanks to kills by
Riley McArdle (Fy.), Menze,
Lindsay Arezina (So.), Salvia,
Hannah Swinsburg (Fy.),
Madisyn Heiser-Elsea (So.), and
Kathy Shepherd (Jr.). The Lions had their own answer with a 8-2 jolt to get within seven of their opponents. From then on Bryn Athyn pestered King's by scoring two tallies for every Monarch point. The score was 24-19 when King's outlasted the Lions after a final kill by Heiser-Elsea. The Monarchs remained victorious 25-19.
The third and final set of the night was much like the second. King's had an early 19-2 lead seeing
Mia Campanile (Jr.) and
Ashley Webber (Fy.) add points to the scoreboard. Bryn Athyn was not going down without a fight and created a 10-3 burst. Though the Monarchs kept their composure and polished off a 25-12 victory after scoring four straight points.
King's ended with 38 kills, 33 assists, nine aces, 55 digs, and a hitting percentage of .260. Sinocruz set a standard of 23 assists and 14 digs. Salvia led the squad with nine kills, while Menze collected seven kills and a hitting percentage of .700. McArdle added 11 digs to the stat sheet.
The Lions' Riley Breen (So.) produced seven kills and nine digs. Paige Lipp (So.) had 13 of the team's 16 assists and recorded 11 digs. Sabrina Brock (Jr.) and Alahnys Galarza (Jr.) chipped in 10 digs each.
The Monarchs are back home tomorrow, September 14
th for a tri-match against Keystone and Medgar Evers at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. They will have their first road test on Tuesday, September 17
th at 6 p.m. to take on Penn College.
