HUNTINGDON, PA (September 14, 2024) -- The King's College men's soccer team tallies their first draw of the season against Juniata with a score of 1-1, making the Monarchs 3-1-1 on the season and moving the Eagles to 2-1-3. First-year forward
Anthony Ramirez recorded his first collegiate goal for the Monarchs in the tie.
The Eagles got on the board early as Jayden Gaynor snuck the ball past first-year goalkeeper
Ben VanValkenburg in the 10th minute of play. A slew of yellow cards were issued to both teams midway through the first half of play as first-year Monarch
Jackson Nuttall was given one in minute 26, Juniata's Harshaan Grewal in minute 28 and Ty Mazzarella in minute 34.
In between the issuing of cards, Ramirez scored his first career goal, unassisted, to make it tied 1-1 in minute 30.
Philip Permyashkin and
Shane Serio both notched shots on goal through the remainder of the half, but the 1-1 score stood going into halftime. All of King's' three shots on goal were recorded in the first 45 minutes.
Juniata's goalkeeper Maxwell Mattioni had two saves on the night while VanValkenburg had nine total, including five in the first half, to keep the game competitive.
The second half was a bit of a slower pace as the Monarchs recorded zero shots compared to the Eagles' six. Vanvalkenburg had four stellar saves in the second to keep the game tied after 90.
King's is back in action this Wednesday, September 18 as they travel to Chestertown, MD to take on Washington College at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium at 7 p.m.
