WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 14, 2024) --
Patrick Pech,
Cody Zheng, and the No. 3 doubles team are all still in play as the King's College men's tennis team opened their 2024 fall slate in their own Fall Invitational on Saturday at Kirby Park.
Patrick Pech will compete in the No. 1 singles semifinals tomorrow after defeating Penn College's Alexander Norris, 6-2 and 6-0. At No. 2 singles,
Cody Zheng advanced to the semifinals with a gritty 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5) win over Misericordia's Dalton Alexander. The pair of
Jacob Nelson and
Brendan Turowski are set to compete in tomorrow's No. 3 doubles championship match against Lycoming after defeating Misericordia, 8-7 (7-3) and Elizabethtown by a score of 8-4 in the semifinals.
At No. 3 singles, Turowski faced a 4-2 setback to Elizabethtown's Austin Kohler. In No. 4 singles action,
Stanley Shimko was downed 6-3 and 6-1 to FDU-Florham's Nicholas Weglinski.
Dylan Stoss dropped his opening match at No. 5 singles, 6-0 and 6-3, to Wilkes' Otarhe Okoh, while
Zackary Bedwell fell by sets of 6-4 and 6-2 to Lycoming's Luke Taylor at No. 6 singles. Singles play was rounded out by Alexander Nole with a 6-0 and 6-4 defeat at the hand's of Elizabethtown's Isaac Reichenbach.
In doubles action, the pair of Pech and Zheng teamed up at No. 1 doubles to advance to the semifinals with an 8-6 win over Lycoming before falling, 8-4, to the team from Wilkes. At No. 2 doubles, Stoss and Shimko dropped their opening-round match to Elizabethtown.
Gavin Hall and
Joseph Lalli made their collegiate debut in the invitational and faced an 8-1 setback at No. 4 doubles to the team from Penn College.
Pech, Zheng, and the doubles team of Nelson and Turowski will battle for a chance at a title tomorrow at Kirby Park. Action is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on day two of the King's College Fall Invitational.
