DELHI, NY (September 19, 2024) -- The King's College women's volleyball team defeated the Broncos of SUNY- Delhi 3-0 in Floyd L. Maines Arena. The Monarchs witnessed
Morgan Williams (Jr.) collect her 1,000th-career dig on Thursday night.
King's had an early 4-1 lead in the first set. After a SUNY- Delhi timeout, the Broncos scored two-points for every King's tally and were able to tie the matchup 9-9. Though the Monarchs answered back with a 4-0 jolt that comprised of kills made by
Bella Salvia (Jr.) and
Jessica Menze (Fy.). From then on it was neck-and-neck as the hosts searched to take over the set, but after two straight points by King's, the Monarchs won 25-19.
The second set was a battle as the crowd saw seven ties and five lead changes. The Broncos had a hot start with a 9-4 run to force a King's timeout. Following the break, the Monarchs made a 9-4 burst to even the game at 13-13. It was point-for-point after the deadlock before King's took an outstanding 8-2 run that included tallies made by
Kathy Shepherd (Jr.),
Theresa Lynch (Jr.),
Emma Bolich (So.), and Menze to take the second set, 25-19.
The Monarchs maintained their momentum in the third and final set. The squad unleashed a 6-1 spurt that comprised of four straight aces by
Keely Hoban (Sr.). King's took control and found themselves with a 15-6 cushion. SUNY- Delhi was not going down without a fight and crawled back with a 9-2 burst to get within two of the Monarchs. The two adversaries began trading tallies and had four ties towards the end of the set. King's prevailed and outlasted the Broncos 27-25
The Monarchs finished with 27 kills on 22 assists, seven aces, and 65 digs. Williams fueled the defensive end with 26 digs. Salvia produced 10 kills with a hitting percentage of .350. Hoban dished out 11 assists and
Viannce Sinocruz (So.) followed with her own nine.
The Broncos ended with 33 kills on 32 assists, five aces, and 61 digs. Sage Renneisen (5th) recorded 10 kills, while Finley Benn (So.) and Madelyn Diep (So.) had eight each. Jaeden Venute (Sr.) passed out 32 helpers. On defense, Audrey Logsdon (Jr.) chipped in 14 digs and Diep had 10.
King's are back home in McGrane Gymnasium for Senior Day on Saturday, September 21
st to take on Maritime and Muhlenberg at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Senior Day festivities will take place before the Maritime match. The squad will open Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25
th against Arcadia.
