Flying Dutchmen Down Monarchs 5-3

HERSHEY, PA (JANUARY 10, 2025) – The King's College men's ice hockey team fell 5-3 to the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College at Hersheypark Arena on Friday night. With the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) loss, the Monarchs drop to 3-9-0, 2-7-0 in conference play as Lebanon Valley improves to 5-7-1, 4-4-1.

The Flying Dutchmen accumulated four penalties through the first 20 minutes: Reece McDonald at 1:02 (holding), Max Kontir at 10:08 (elbowing), Brenden Yingling at 17:33 (slashing) and Aidan Bright at 19:18 with time carrying into the second period (interference.) Jakub Viedemann got the Monarchs on the board with an unassisted power play goal at 2:11. McDonald answered back for the Flying Dutchmen, evening the score at 1-1 with a goal off an assist from Kontir. A goal from Ethan Hoover and an assist from Cameron Croteau gave Lebanon Valley the 2-1 lead at 11:41. Michael Harrel Jr. tied the game with an unassisted goal at 16:11 to go into intermission with a 2-2 score.

Dustin Blake and Hoover combined to set up Harris Blackwood to score at 8:15 in the second. Brendan Krawczyk was sent to the penalty box for holding at 13:39, resulting in a power play goal for Dylan Miller at 14:13 with assists from Blackwood and Cade Helmer. The Dutchmen led 4-2 going into the second intermission.

First year forward Cristo Walker received three-straight penalties in the third period with tripping at 4:37, interference at 6:41 and another tripping at 9:27. Hoover was called for high sticking at 12:57 and then went on to score an unassisted, empty net goal at 18:46 to extend the lead to 5-2. Krawczyk concluded the game with a cross checking penalty at 19:38. First year goaltender Ben Williams tallied 41 saves on the night with 18 coming in the second period. Ethan Hersant went 20-12 in faceoffs and posted three blocks.

The Monarchs return home to the Revolution Ice Centre tomorrow, January 11, for a rematch with the Flying Dutchmen. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
