PITTSTON, PA (January 17, 2025) – The King's College men's ice hockey team tied the Mustangs of Stevenson University 2-2 on Friday night at the Revolution Ice Centre. With the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) tie, the Monarchs move to 4-10-1, 2-8-1 in conference play while the Mustangs improve to 9-5-1, 6-4-1.
Teodor Benno Vaage scored a late goal in the third period to force overtime, but the game ended in a shootout loss for the Monarchs.
No goals or penalties occurred through the first 20 minutes of play. In the second period, the Mustangs got on the board first with a goal from Connor MacDonnel at 6:14 with an assist from Aiden Lindley.
Jakub Viedemann was penalized for roughing at 9:55 and
Patrick Nowak tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal in the final 30 seconds of the period.
Viedemann tallied his second penalty of the night as he was called for tripping at 5:18 in the third. The Mustangs regained the lead midway through the period as Blake Benson found the back of the net off assists from John Musella and Caden Smith. Jack Meloff found himself in the penalty box after being called for interference at 13:08. The Monarchs tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Benno Vaage at 18:45 with help from
Aaron Frenkel and
Thomas Soucy.
Two penalties occurred through the five-minute overtime period:
Patrick Nowak for slashing at 1:50 and Jack Karlsson for tripping at 4:27. No overtime goals forced a shootout where Stevenson's Liam McCanney and Evan Beers scored while King's
Cameron Bauer and
Kent Lee missed.
Mikey Harrel Jr. and
Thomas Soucy both recorded two blocks and
Diego D'Alessandro posted 32 saves on the night.
The Monarchs return to the Revolution Ice Centre tomorrow, January 18 for a rematch with the Mustangs. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
