Women’s Ice Hockey Dealt Road Loss at Stevenson

REISTERSTOWN, MD (January 17, 2025) – The King's College women's ice hockey team dropped a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup with the Mustangs of Stevenson University 6-3 on Friday night at the Reisterstown Sportsplex. With the loss, the Monarchs move to 4-8-2, 4-5-2 in conference play as Stevenson improves to 5-10-0, 3-8-0.

Stevenson's Gracie Payne got the Mustangs on the board early, scoring at 1:48 off assists from Abby Smith and Emma DeMan. Kira Otto was called for body checking at 3:33 with a slew of penalties to follow as Ani Quindipan was called for hooking at 6:39, Jalyn Jones for hooking at 9:43 and Melanie Baldwin Van Meer for elbowing at 12:40. The Mustangs extended the lead with a goal from Otto at 14:01 off assists from Payne and Meghan Croyle and again at 18:47 with an unassisted goal from Carleigh Barwick. The Mustangs led 3-0 going into the first intermission.

Lucy Beal scored an unassisted goal at 4:15 to put the Monarchs on the board. Abby Barlocker was penalized for cross checking at 6:25 and went on to score at 10:16 with an assist from Emma Besa. Beal was called for holding at 13:12 and Megan Swick capitalized on the power play with a goal at 15:05 off assists from Emma DeMan and Carleigh Barwick. Barlocker was called for roughing at the end of the second period with time carrying into the third.

In the third period, Aspen Wallin was penalized for body checking at 9:15, resulting in a power play goal for Otto, her second of the game, at 11:01. She had assists from Croyle and Franki Cappello. Payne was called for tripping at 13:30 and Barlocker scored her second goal of the game at 15:51 with assists from Kait Wolf and Jordan Dittmar to make the game 5-3 Stevenson. Payne scored at 19:44 on an empty net with assists from Otto and Maggie Dean to solidify the conference win for the Mustangs.

Junior captain Maddie Vaughan went 20-9 in faceoffs, Dittmar went 17-10, Beal posted three blocks and Syd Dahl tallied 25 saves in net on the night.

The Monarchs are back for a rematch with the Mustangs tomorrow, January 18 at 3 p.m. at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
