REISTERSTOWN, MD (January 18, 2025) – The King's College women's ice hockey team tied the Stevenson Mustangs 4-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex. With the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) tie, the Monarchs move to 4-8-3, 4-5-3 in conference play as Stevenson improves to 5-10-1, 3-8-1.
The Mustangs got on the board first with a goal from Carleigh Barwick at 8:52 off assists from Emma DeMan and Abby Smith.
Kait Wolf was penalized for tripping at 11:05. Stevenson went on to score their second goal at 13:16, this time with DeMan as the goal scorer and Smith and Barwick with the assists. Franki Cappello was called for tripping at 14:49, resulting in a power play goal for Sammy Stead at 15:12 with help from
Aspen Wallin and
Maddie Vaughan. The Mustangs led 2-1 going into the first intermission.
In the second period, Stevenson suffered a team penalty at 3:49 for having too many players on the ice. Meghan Croyle was called for tripping at 13:34 with
Lucy Beal capitalizing on the penalty with a power play goal at 14:46 off assists from
Amanda Sokol and
Sammi Stead. The game was tied 2-2 as the second period expired.
Barwick scored her second goal of the game at 2:17 with assists from DeMan and Smith to kickstart the heavy scoring period. Lola Russell was penalized for interference at 7:40, resulting in a power play goal for
Brighton Wallin at 8:56 off assists from
Jordan Dittmar and
Lucy Beal. The Mustangs answered back four seconds later with Smith scoring an unassisted goal. DeMan was called for roughing at 10:18.
Abby Barlocker tied the game at 3-3 with a goal at 15:44 off assists from
Brighton Wallin and Dittmar. Barlocker found herself spending the remainder of regulation in the penalty box after being called for hooking at 19:00. Nobody scored in the five-minute overtime period and Stevenson won in the shootout.
Ani Quindipan posted two blocks as
Maddie Vaughan went 17-8 in faceoffs and junior goaltender
Hayley Packer tallied 27 saves on the night.
The Monarchs return home on Friday, January 24 for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Knights of Arcadia University.
