Burys Leads King's in Setback at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ (January 18, 2025) -- The King's College men's basketball team fell, 97-64, on the road at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. The Monarchs fall to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the standings, while the Ducks improve to 12-3 with an unbeaten 4-0 conference mark.

Stevens (12-3, 4-0 MAC Freedom) jumped out to an early 14-5 lead with 17:01 left in the half, but a 9-0 spurt from King's (6-7, 1-3 MAC Freedom) made it a one-point game with 14:41 to go. The teams traded possessions before they both went cold from the field with just two Duck field goals scored over the next 4:36 of action. Stevens led by as much as 13, 31-18, with 8:28 to go out of the scoring drought, but a pair of threes each from Matt Christian and Sean Forrest kept the game within reach as the Monarchs trailed, 47-34, at the halftime break.

The Monarchs struggled to start the second half, and the host Stevens capitalized as they opened the frame on an 11-0 run. Jawane Buckner hit two from the charity stripe to get King's on the board, but the Ducks maintained their rhythm down the stretch and never looked back as the Monarchs fell, 97-64, on the road on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken.

Garrett Burys paced the offense with 15 points while adding five rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal, while Eamonn Walsh finished with 10 points and two boards. Christian came off the bench to add eight points, and Ben Rodner-Tims dished out a team-high five assists.

Mike Goodall led all scorers with 26 points, including six threes, while Jack Spellman finished with a double-double of 16 rebounds and 14 points.

King's finished the game shooting 31.9% from the floor with 21 assists on their 23 buckets. The Monarchs took care of the ball, committing just six turnovers, while forcing 11 Duck miscues.

The Monarchs return to their home court at McGrane Gymnasium on Wednesday night as they host Delaware Valley University in MAC Freedom play. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
