UNION, NJ (January 21, 2025) -- The King's College men's volleyball team traveled to Kean University for a Tuesday night matchup. The Monarchs had a hard fought battle against the Cougars but fell 3-0 in the Harwood Arena.

King's started the first set with a 6-1 deficit before calling a timeout. After the intermission, the Monarchs went on an 8-4 run that included
Greg Bousquet,
Logan Place,
Gavin Gilhool, and
Ben Maskiell to get the Monarchs within one. It was neck-and-neck from then on as Kean maintained the lead. The score was 21-16 when King's made a three point swing thanks to
Logan Dougherty and
Rich Alvarez. Though the Cougars had every answer and won the first set 25-22.

The second set was unlike the first as the crowd witnessed 14 tied scores and six lead changes. Both teams traded tallies throughout the set, not allowing the other to gain an edge. Bousquet added one last point to the scoreboard for the Monarchs to get within to even the score, 21-21. Kean was able to produce four unanswered tallies to take the second set 25-21.

In the third and final set of the evening, the Cougars maintained their momentum with an early 6-3 lead. King's was not going down without a fight and had a 4-1 burst that comprised of
Alex Martellacci, Alvarez, and Bousquet to tie the match. The hosts were not going to let that happen and collected a series of runs and did not allow the Monarchs to score more than two points in a row. Kean remained victorious, 25-16.

King's ended with 32 kills on 28 assists, 30 digs, and five blocks. Bousquet led the squad with nine kills and 10 digs. Maskiell sparked the offense with 26 assists and two kills. Dougherty produced eight kills and three blocks.
Aiden Glasgow collected six digs.

The Cougars finished with 52 kills, 49 assists, 43 digs, and five blocks. Danny Pugliano earned 12 kills, while Nick Huzar and Aidan Finn was right behind with their own nine. Brandon Millias led the team with 24 assists and David Flores followed with 15 helpers. Tyler Quinn fueled the defensive end with 17 digs.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday, January 25
th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for a road tri-meet against Buffalo State and Elmira. The team will at Saint Elizabeth University at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29
th.
