Shooting Struggles Woe Women's Hoops against Lebanon Valley

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 29, 2025) -- The King's College women's basketball team struggled from the floor in their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match up on Wednesday night as they fell, 62-40, to Lebanon Valley College. With the setback in McGrane Gymnasium, the Monarchs drop to 6-12 overall and 2-5 in the conference, while the Flying Dutchmen improved to 13-5 with a 6-1 MAC Freedom mark.
 
The teams traded scores to start the game before Lebanon Valley (13-5, 6-1 MAC Freedom) went on a 12-4 run to jump ahead, 14-6, with 3:48 to go in the first. Gianna Dickson buried a three and scored five of the next seven for King's (6-12, 2-5 MAC Freedom) as they closed within three, 16-13, to end the quarter.
 
The shooting struggles plagued the Monarchs in the second as they were out scored 18-5 in the frame on their way to a 34-18 halftime deficit.
 
King's stayed in the game throughout the third to keep the game within reach and entered the final quarter of play trailing, 46-29.
 
The Monarchs started the fourth on a 9-6 rally capped off by a three from Alli Lindsay to close within 52-38 with 5:27 to play. The Dutchmen responded with their own 7-1 spurt to pull away as King's fell, 62-40, at home on Wednesday evening.
 
Lauren Casey paced the offense with 13 points, eight rebounds, and a block, while Lindsay added six points, three boards, three assists, and a block. Claire Aufiero came off the bench to provide a spark, scoring six with four boards, and Dickson totaled five points, three dimes, and two steals. Cadie Lewis filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five helpers, and three points, and Layla Orth collected two steals.
 
Jordan Zimmerman led the Dutchmen with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while Brielle Reidinger finished with a double-double of 15 boards and 10 points.
 
King's assisted on all but one field goal in the setback, while the defense limited Lebanon Valley to 28.6% (4-14) from three.
 
The Monarchs will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon as they open the second half of their MAC Freedom schedule in McGrane Gymnasium. King's is set to host FDU-Florham at 1:00 p.m.
