Bristol, RI (January 4, 2025) -- The King's College wrestling team start the new year 1-1 as they took down New England College 25-20 and fell to Roger Williams 22-27 on Saturday afternoon in the Roger Williams Field House.

vs New England College, W – 25-20
Patrick Horvath took on Dominic Gangi at 125 and lost in a 5-0 decision. At 133,
Cole Anderson battled hard against Michael Follo but succumbed to a 20-4 technical fall loss.
Nick Germano was dropped by Boburjon Berdiyorov in a 19-4 technical fall at 141.
Shane Kibler brought the Monarchs on the board with a 5-1 decision win over Joseph Gangi in the 149-bout.
MJ Turi came in to push King's further and defeated Rocco Hayden in a 12-4 major decision at 157.

To tie the matchup,
Nick Costello dropped Dominic DeMaio in 1:32 at 165.
Jacob Hachtmann lost his 174 match in a 9-1 major decision to Joseph Bolduc.
Frankie Theroux won his 184 matchup by a forfeit from the Pilgrims.
Jake Bobersky won by pinfall at 197 against Josh Bean in 4:24. In the final bout of the dual,
Nick Valenzano was outlasted by Brandon Lavasta in a 10-3 decision at heavyweight. The Monarchs won 25-20.

Patrick Horvath celebrated the first win of the match at 125 by pinning Zach Henault. At 133,
Cole Anderson was dropped by Shaun McLaughlin in 2:10.
Nick Germano had a hard-fought battle against Trey Kaupp but lost in a 6-2 decision at 141.
Shane Kibler celebrated a 10-1 major decision win over Nick Fatone at 149. In the 157 bout,
MJ Turi outlasted Jack Forte in a 4-1 decision to put King's up by four points.

Nick Costello was downed by Matt Lucas at 156 in a 2:15 pinfall.
Jacob Hachtmann pushed the Monarchs to regain the lead with a 6:44 pin against Jayden Curley at 174.
Frankie Theroux maintained the momentum at 184 by defeating Eric Power in a 5-0 decision. At 197,
Jake Bobersky lost to Michael Forte by a 1:50 pinfall and Roger Williams pulled in to get within one before the final match. At heavyweight,
Nick Valenzano fell to Jayden Toppan in 0:51. King's lost to the Hawks 27-22.

The Monarchs will be back home on Tuesday, January 14
th at 7 p.m. to take on Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Delaware Valley. The squad will be right back on the mats for the MAC Championships on Saturday, January 18
th in McGrane Gymnasium.
