Maddie Vaughan Notches First Hat Trick in Program History in 4-1 Win Over Hood College

HAGERSTOWN, MD (JANUARY 7, 2025) – After falling 3-0 to Hood College before the mid-season break, the King's College women's ice hockey team found redemption with a 4-1 win over the Blazers on Tuesday afternoon at the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 3-6-2, 3-3-2 in conference play as the Blazers fall to 3-9-0, 1-7-0. Junior captain Maddie Vaughan scored all four goals for the Monarchs, posting the first hat trick in program history.

Vaughan scored her first goal of the afternoon at 11:06 in the first period with assists from Sammi Stead and Amanda Sokol. No other goals or penalties came through the remaining duration of the period.

The Blazers began the second period with a bench minor penalty served by Ella Bynan. Sofie Ancona was then charged with interference at 6:28, later resulting in a power play goal for Vaughan at 6:43 with assists from Stead and Lucy Beal. Vaughan received a cross-checking penalty at 15:02. The Monarchs led 2-0 going into the last period of play.

Ancona got the Blazers on the board in the third period with a goal at 4:16 off assists from Samantha Faatz and Julia Marano. Reece Gall was penalized for hooking at 9:44 and Vaughan netted her second power play goal, third of the game at 9:50 with another assist from Sokol. Dakota Ormiston was called for roughing at 12:55 and, with help from Wallin and Beal, Vaughan scored her fourth goal off the power play at 13:46. The Monarchs received two penalties to close out the game as Jordan Dittmar was called for tripping at 16:46 and Brenna Munn for hooking at 17:54. The 4-1 score stood in favor of the Monarchs as time expired. First-year goaltender Will McPherson posted 16 saves and Brighton Wallin recorded three blocks.

Women's ice hockey returns home this weekend to host the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 10 at the Revolution Ice Centre.
