SCRANTON, PA (October 12, 2025) -- The King's College women's swim team dove into its 2025-26 season with a tri-meet against Marywood University and Wilkes University, Saturday morning at the Scranton YMCA. The Monarchs fell to the Pacers, 213-36 and the Colonels, 174-58.
The 200-yard medley relay opened Saturday's events, as the team of
Stefany Malaga,
Aubrey Gowen,
Carla Hidalgo and
Abigayle Cryan combined for a time of 2:26.98.
Moving to individual events, Cryan touched the wall in 4:06.66 in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 50-yard backstroke, Gowen clocked in at 43.46.
A trio of Monarch swimmers competed in the 50-yard freestyle; Gowen recorded a sixth-place finish in 31.02 while Cryan and
Athena Gerlek followed with times of 44.84 and 56.25, respectively.
Malaga touched the wall in 1:07.68 in the 100-yard freestyle to claim fourth place. Gerlek followed with a time of 2:06.27.
Hidalgo led the way for the Monarchs, taking the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke. The first-year built a solid lead through the open 50 yards and maintained her pace down the stretch to finish in 1:06.70.
Gowen placed sixth in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:37.84 and Cryan finished the 500-yard freestyle in 11:38.86.
Hidalgo came out with another strong performance in the 50-yard butterfly, using a 29.38 time to place second – just two-tenths of a second behind the first-place finisher. In the final individual event of the day, Hidalgo clocked a 2:33.55 time to finish in the top three in the 200-yard medley. Malaga rounded out the Monarch competitors, touching in 3:00.83.
In the final event of the day, the King's squad of Malaga, Cryan, Gowen and Hidalgo teamed up for a 2:19.22 finish.
King's travels to Lebanon Valley for a road meet with the Flying Dutchmen, Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
