Robinson, Defense Fuel Monarchs’ 52-0 Shutout of Alvernia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 18, 2025) --  After two weeks without a home game, the King's College football team returned to McCarthy Stadium with a dominant 52-0 win over Alvernia University, Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs improved to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) while maintaining a perfect all-time record against the Golden Wolves, which now stands at 7-0. Meanwhile, Alvernia continued its tough start to the season, falling to 0-6 on the season with a 0-5 record in conference play.

After winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, King's set the tone on defense with a textbook three-and-out drive. The Monarchs stifled Alvernia's run game, keeping them to gains of one and two yards, respectively, before a well-covered pass attempt forced a punt.

Having scored on the second snap of last week's game at Stevenson, Brennan Robinson outdid himself with a touchdown on the very first play of the opening offensive drive. The senior running back found a hole in the line of scrimmage and turned on the jets, breaking free for a 72-yard house call to give King's an early 7-0 lead with 13:14 left in the first quarter.

The Monarch defense wasted no time asserting its dominance on Alvernia's second possession. A strong stop by James Mangine on first down set the tone, and a combined tackle by Michael Richino and Zach Hulsizer quickly closed the series, forcing the Golden Wolves off the field in just three plays. The quick defensive stand continued to showcase King's control at the line of scrimmage and set up another opportunity for the offense to capitalize

Robinson continued to power the offense with a pair of runs to pick up a first down at midfield. Facing third-and-seven, Jayon Hailey lost his defender and tore downfield, where Jaelen Mims delivered a perfect pass that caught him in stride as he raced his way into the end zone. Following the second successful extra point attempt of the afternoon from Aaron Losada, the Monarchs led, 14-0.

Bryan Kelly got in on the defensive action with his first pass breakup of the day, deep in Golden Wolves territory. Despite a pass interference penalty that yielded a first down, the King's defense maintained their composure and forced a third consecutive punt.

A pair of empty drives moved the contest into the second quarter with Mims and the offense maintaining possession of the ball. The Monarchs displayed some clever play calling in the red zone when Hailey took the snap in wildcat formation, faked the handoff and hit a gap for a rushing touchdown to put King's in control, 21-0 with 13:48 remaining in the half.

On the ensuing Alvernia possession, Xander Murray made his presence known with a quarterback hurry that resulted in an intentional grounding call, setting the Golden Wolves back 13 yards and ultimately extinguishing the drive.

Robinson tacked on two more touchdowns on consecutive possessions with a pair of 18 and 23-yard rushes to the end zone. King's continued to pile on the offense, building a comfortable 35-0 lead with under eight minutes to go in the second frame.

Murray continued to prove why he recently earned Single-Digit Tough status with his second QB hurry of the afternoon, yielding yet another intentional grounding call on Alvernia. On the very next play, Khalil Holley got to the quarterback for a nine-yard loss, shutting the door on another Golden Wolves drive.

The Monarchs got the ball back at their own 37 with exactly six minutes to go in the second quarter. After a pair of short gains, Mims rolled out of the pocket and made a short pass to Nick Hoffman. Hoffman cut towards the Alvernia sideline, picked up a crucial block from Tyler Carey and crossed the goal line for the team's sixth touchdown of the first half. With 4:32 remaining on the game clock, King's held a commanding 42-0 lead.

After the Monarch defense held Alvernia to another three-and-out in their first drive of the third quarter, the defense continued Richino and Tarylle Stewart combined for a six-yard sack. A QB hurry courtesy of Khalil Holley on fourth-and-10 capped another productive stand by the defensive unit.

Aaron Losada maintained his perfect outing with a 30-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, expanding the Monarch's lead to 45.

The defense came up with its fifth sack of the afternoon when Holley and TJ Wilkerson brought the Alvernia quarterback down six yards behind the line of scrimmage, setting up a punt on fourth-and-18.

With 12:50 remaining in the game, the rushing responsibilities were handed over to Reynaldo Carter, who ran the ball for 46 yards over eight consecutive carries to set the King's offense up in the red zone. Joey Rehberg, who had checked in under center, legged out the remaining yardage with a 13-yard run to the house. The touchdown - which proved to be the final points of the game - brought the score to 52-0 in favor of the Monarchs.

The secondary continued a strong defensive showing late in the game for King's, as Jayden Farmer posted an interception and fumble recovery late in the game to seal the impressive victory.

Robinson powered the ground game with three touchdowns and 189 yards on 21 carries. Shemar Ellis put together a 74-yard performance while Rehberg and Hailey accounted for the other two rushing touchdowns.

Mims was efficient in the pocket, throwing for two touchdowns and 159 yards on six completions. Hailey, his primary target, posted 88 receiving yards with one trip to the end zone. Nick Hoffman scored a 57-yard touchdown on his lone reception of the game.

The Monarch defense was stellar throughout the matchup, holding Alvernia to just 64 overall yards and six first downs. Hulsizer led the way with seven tackles. Murray had an explosive outing, recording 2.0 sacks for 18 yards and 2 tackles for loss. His pressure contributed to multiple stalled drives and a forced intentional grounding penalty.

Holley was a force off the edge, tallying 1.5 sacks for 12 yards, two tackles for loss, and five total tackles. He also added a quarterback hurry. Richino contributed across the board with six total tackles, 0.5 sacks, one tackle for loss and a pair quarterback hurries.

Losada was a perfect 6-6 on extra point attempts while Kurt Wieboldt added another.

The Monarchs hit the road next week, traveling to Lebanon Valley for a 1:00 p.m. meeting with the Dutchmen.
