Late Surge Powers Monarchs Past Lebanon Valley, 21-20

ANNVILLE, PA (October 25, 2025) -- In a dramatic Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) showdown at Arnold Field, the King's College football team rallied late to secure a thrilling 21-20 victory over Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon. The victory marked the Monarchs' third straight win, improving their record to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in MAC play. With the loss, Lebanon Valley dropped to 4-3 with a 4-2 conference record.

After trailing 20-14 midway through the fourth quarter, King's orchestrated an efficient four-play drive capped by a touchdown plunge from senior running back Brennan Robinson with 3:36 remaining. The go-ahead score followed a 70-yard bomb from quarterback Jaelin Mims to wide receiver Kival Clarke that set the Monarchs up at the goal line. Kicker Aaron Losada's third successful PAT of the day proved to be the difference, as Jacob Mullery's clutch interception with under a minute remaining sealed the win for the Monarchs.

King's opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 10-play, 77-yard drive. Directly after a  12-yard connection with Jayon Hailey on a slant route, Mims found Clarke in the back right corner of the end zone with a perfect pass. Clarke hauled in the pass to open the scoring and give King's a 7-0 lead at 6:26 of the first quarter.

The Flying Dutchmen responded with an eight play, 81-yard drive resulting in a touchdown to level the score at 7-7 with just under five minutes remaining in the first frame.

Facing fourth and seven deep in King's territory, the Lebanon Valley offense elected to go for it in search of a deep pass for a touchdown. The Monarch secondary held strong, displaying excellent coverage to eliminate the Dutchmen quarterback's options and force an incomplete pass to turn the ball over on downs.

King's took advantage of the opportunity, using nine snaps to chug 71 yards downfield to the Lebanon Valley 12. After a run to the end zone was called back for offensive holding, Hailey made a leaping grab in coverage on a play-action and hustled his way to the house, restoring the seven-point Monarch lead with 5:31 to go in the half.

As LVC attempted to tie the game before halftime, the trio of Tarylle Stewart, James Rush and Zach Hulsizer held firm with three tackles, holding the Dutchmen to a combined eight yards and forcing the three-and-out.

After 30 minutes of play, the visiting Monarchs held a 14-7 lead over Lebanon Valley. King's had 12 first downs to Lebanon Valley's 10 and outgained their opponent 260 to 192 in total offense. The Monarchs rushed for 130 yards on 22 carries, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt, while Mims completed 10 of 13 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Clarke led all receivers with 95 yards on four catches, while Hailey added 43 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, King's recorded two sacks and held Lebanon Valley to just 1-of-6 on third down conversions. Linebacker Jacob Mullery led the way with five tackles, while defensive linemen Michael Richino and Xander Murray each contributed a sack before halftime.

The third quarter was a defensive stalemate, with both teams trading punts and failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities. King's defense continued to apply pressure, as Mullery led the charge with three tackles. Matt Blakemore and Richino each recorded a pair of tackles in the third quarter. Richino also came up with a huge sack for a loss of eight yards, setting the stage for another three-and-out late in the frame.

In the fourth quarter, Lebanon Valley surged ahead with two quick touchdowns, taking a 20-14 lead. In what proved to be a consequential extra point attempt for the Dutchmen, Khalil Holley split a pair of lineman at the scrimmage and leapt up to get both hands on the ball, keeping King's within six points of tying the game.

The Monarch offense remained composed and mounted a decisive response. With just over five minutes remaining, Mims fed a short pass to Clarke, who dodged a tackle and took off down the King's sideline before getting taken down just short of the goal line at the Lebanon Valley one. Robinson punched the ball through a slew of bodies and into the end zone to finish the drive. After Losada's third successful PAT of the day, the Monarchs held a slim 21-20 advantage over the Dutchmen with just over three and a half minutes remaining in regulation.

Following the lead change, the King's defense took the field for a crucial final defensive stand. The Dutchmen pushed the line of scrimmage to the Monarch 41 before Holley broke through the offensive line and forced the LVC quarterback to unleash an off-balance throw on third-and-one. Mullery provided excellent coverage on his receiver and easily picked the ball off, allowing Mims and the offense to kneel out the final 55 seconds on the game clock and seal the 21-20 comeback victory.

Mims had a strong performance, completing 14 of 19 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 24 rushing yards. Clarke finished with six receptions and a touchdown, recording career-highs with 127 receiving yards including a 70-yard catch. Robinson ran for 107 yards on 22 carries with a rushing touchdown. Hailey combined for 65 rushing yards on six carries along with five receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown catch.

On defense, Mullery had a team-high nine stops with six solo tackles. Blakemore and Hulsizer followed with seven total tackles apiece. Richino racked up five tackles with 1.5 sacks for nine yards. Holley made a pair of clutch plays with a blocked PAT and a quarterback hurry on the final defensive play of the game.

As a team, King's narrowly outgained Lebanon Valley 388 to 385 in total offense, averaging 7.2 yards per play. The Monarchs continued to find success in the red zone, scoring on all three of their opportunities inside the 20-yard line. The defensive unit held Lebanon Valley to just 2-of-10 on third down conversions.

The Monarchs return home to McCarthy Stadium next Saturday for their Senior Night match-up against Albright College. Kickoff against the Lions is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
