WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 1, 2025) -- A balanced offensive attack and full team effort on defense helped pace the King's College football team to its fourth straight victory since the bye week, downing Albright College 24-14 in an important Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest. The Monarchs move to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the MAC, while the Lions drop to 4-4 with a 3-4 conference mark.
It was a slow start to the contest as the game saw three punts to begin before the King's (5-3, 5-2 MAC) offense got rolling behind a 24-yard run from
Brennan Robinson to open the drive. The team then marched down the field behind big plays by
Jaelin Mims to find the end zone on a 24-yard pass to
Devin Duana to give the Monarchs the early 7-0 edge with 1:30 to play in the first.
Again both offenses stalled before Albright (4-4, 3-4 MAC) took advantage of a short punt to find the end zone two plays into their next drive, tying the game at 7-7 with 10:40 remaining in the half. The Monarchs had an immediate response, using just five plays across 60 yards and only 2:11 of the game clock. Duana and
Tyler Carey led the early efforts, combining for 35 yards in the air, Mims used his legs to pick up 15, then the sophomore connected with
Jayon Hailey from 20 yards out to push their lead to 14-7 with 8:21 left in the second.
Albright seemed to find some energy on their next drive, but on a 4th-and-4 from the King's 17 it was a big-time break up by
Bryan Kelly to force a turnover on downs and shut down the Lions' attack. The pace slowed again after that thrilling start to the second as the game entered the half-time break with the Monarchs ahead, 14-7.
Despite an empty trip to start the third, King's kept the momentum on their side and forced another turnover on downs to set up their next scoring opportunity. The hosts chewed up 6:59 of the game clock in their 12-play, 70-yard drive, and thanks to a 16-yard catch early by Hailey and back-to-back plays by Duana for 29 yards, the Monarchs set up a 31-yard field goal from
Aaron Losada to increase the advantage to 17-7 with 2:18 left in the third.
An unsuccessful field goal attempt from the Albright kicker gave the Monarchs the ball to start the fourth, and King's capitalized with their final score of the game. The offense marched down the field and took advantage of a costly pass interference call to close within seven yards before Mims hit
Aiden Cook for the eight-yard grab as the lead swelled to 24-7 with 9:51 remaining.
Yet another turnover on downs by the Albright offense and a pass break up by
Nathan Taylor stifled the Albright possession, but a miscue by King's set up a Lions scoring drive to inch within 24-14 with 5:43 to play.
King's came up empty on their next possession, giving their foes the ball back with 3:50 to go. On an important 4th-and-11 from the Albright 14-yard line, it was again Taylor to break up a pass and force a turnover on downs to allow King's to kneel out the remaining game clock and secure the 24-14 MAC win on senior day.
Mims threw for 208 yards on 16-of-23 passing and three touchdowns, while Robinson ran for 59 yards on 16 carries. Duana paced the receivers with 93 yards on six catches and a score, while Hailey caught three passes for 74 yards with a touchdown and ran for 24 yards on six attempts.
Jacob Mullery led the defense with seven tackles, including four solo, with 1.5 tackles for a loss of five yards, while
James Rush added seven tackles and 1.0 tackle for a loss of five yards.
Matt Blakemore and
Zach Hulsizer each finished with six tackles and a break up, and both
Khalil Holley and
Tarylle Stewart had six tackles and 1.0 sacks.
Xander Murray broke up three passes, and Taylor and
James Mangine broke up a pair each.
On special teams,
Gavin Wolfe punted six times for 246 yards, including two inside the 20-yard line and two over 50 yards, while
Noah Tapler kicked off five times for 290 yards. Losada was a perfect 3-for-3 an extra-point attempts to go along with the 31-yard field goal, and Carey returned one kickoff for 25 yards.
Albright's offense was led by Chase Roberts who went 23-for-46 with 237 yards, including 98 yards on six grabs to Alden Stickler. John Boston paced the run game with 144 yards on 17 carries with a score. Samuel Moratori had a team-best six tackles with a break up.
As a team, the Monarchs finished with 322 yards of offense and an efficient 3-for-4 in red zone opportunities.
King's will head out on the road for the remainder of the regular season with their first stop down to Widener University on Saturday, November 8 for a 1:00 p.m. kick off with the Pride.
