WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 4, 2025)—The King's College men's soccer team opened MAC Freedom play at McCarthy Stadium on Saturday with a 0-0 draw against Stevens Institute of Technology. With the result, the Monarchs are now 2-5-4 overall and the Ducks sit at 3-2-4 in 2025.
The first half featured strong defensive efforts from both teams, as Stevens fired five shots with two on target while King's registered three shots but none on goal.
James Leonard came closest to scoring with a shot that rattled the right woodwork in the 11th minute, nearly giving the Monarchs an early lead.
In the second half, King's continued to create opportunities, matching their first-half output with three shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Monarchs had another close chance in the 72nd minute when
CJ Anderson headed a corner kick that struck the top crossbar, narrowly missing an opportunity to capture the lead.
The physicality of the contest was evident as both teams combined for 16 fouls and five yellow cards, with King's
William Zelaya,
Saul Lagunas Jr., and
Jackson Nuttall all receiving cautions. Stevens' Dylan Falcone and Luke Carey were also booked.

Brayden Lane,
Santiago Javadpour, Leonard, and Anderson each recorded one shot for the Monarchs, combining for a total of six shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ben Van Valkenburg recorded two key saves throughout the match to secure his second shutout of the season. The Monarchs' defense limited Stevens to just two shots on goal and five corner kicks, with King's also earning three corners.
Looking ahead, King's men's soccer will travel to University Park, PA, to face Penn State University tomorrow, October 5, at 3:00 p.m.
