WILKES BARRE, PA (November 1, 2025) -- The King's College wrestling team hosted their annual Ned McGinley Invitational on Saturday in McGrane Gymnasium. The Monarchs finished 8th out of 12 teams, with 
Shane Kibler emerging as the champion in the 149 bracket. 
MJ Turi (157) earned second while 
Connor Wrobleski (197) finished third.
 
Jeffrey Spofford – 125
Spofford took on Hunter's Micah Kelly in his first outing of the invitational and secured a pin in 1:07. The first year suffered an injury in his bout with Drake Buzzard of Washington and Jefferson, forcing medical forfeits against Buzzard and Matthew Velez of Rochester Institute of Technology.
 
Christian Borges  – 133
Borges dropped a 9-2 decision to Stevens' Naci Robinson before bouncing back with a 12-4 major decision over Alexander Tucker of Washington and Jefferson. The first year wrapped up his first invitational falling to Neale Pathak of New York University by an 18-0 tech fall.
 
Cole Anderson – 133
Anderson used a pin at 0:33 to advance past Keystone's Tanner Pringle in his first bout of the day. The senior scored a 10-0 major decision over Neale Pathak of New York University before suffering a 6-2 setback to Stevens' Vincent Principe. Anderson bounced back with a 17-2 tech fall over Logan Barkey of York and secured his fourth win of the invitational with a no contest against Roger Williams' Caden Bruseo before falling to regionally-ranked Vincet Paolucci of York to finish sixth in the 133 bracket.
 
Freddy Steigerwalt – 133
Steigerwalt battled hard against the top regionally-ranked Jacob Venezia of New York University, but was pinned in 0:58 to open the invitational. The first year concluded his first appearance for the Red and Gold dropping a 19-1 tech fall to York's Logan Barkey.
 
Kevon Griffin – 133
Griffin faced a tough test in his opening match and was pinned by regionally-ranked Cade Sands of Cortland in 1:41. The first year responded with a pin of his own, defeating York's Christian Spezio in exactly 1:00. He ended the day by getting pinned in 3:00 by Kenna Gioffre of Roger Williams in 3:00.
 
Angel Avalos – 141
Avalos competed against the US Merchant Marine Academy's Lucas Maneckshaw in his opening bout of the day and was pinned in 0:55. The sophomore recovered with an 11-3 major decision over Braydon Wilding of Roger Williams before he was pinned by Alex Brandt of Rochester Institute of Technology in 1:35.
 
Jacob Torres – 141
Torres hung tough in his first bout of the day, but was pinned by regionally-ranked Cortland's Culley Bellino in 1:28. The senior fell to Alex Brandt of Rochester Institute of Technology with a 9-5 decision.
 
Brian Hopkins – 149
Hopkins battled hard in his opening match but was ultimately pinned by the regionally-ranked Max Watson of Rochester Institute of Technology in 2:36. He responded with a 20-3 tech fall against Michael Palinkas of Keystone and made it two in a row by pinning Keystone's Dwight Abram Jr. in 3:09. The junior wrapped up his performance against regionally-ranked Nick Fatone of Roger Williams, who pinned Hopkins in 1:59.
 
Shane Kibler – 149
Kibler came out on top in his first bout of the day against Zach Gerby of the Rochester Institute of Technology with a 19-5 major decision. The senior won by default against Bryce Rodriguez-Uram of Washington and Jefferson before defeating Wilkes' Jackson Brady by tech fall, 16-1. In the semifinals, Kibler edged regionally-ranked Johan Mairano of New York University with an 8-6 decision to advance to the finals, where he secured another 8-6 decision over another regionally-ranked opponent, Rochester Institute of Technology's Max Watson to claim the 149-weight class title.
 
Gavin Gonch – 157
Gonch battled hard in his first outing for the Monarchs, but was pinned by Matt Grant of Rochester Institute of Technology and New York University's Robert Leeds in 2:57 and 1:11, respectively.
 
MJ Turi – 157
Turi opened the day with a 17-4 major decision over York's Connor Dube before defeating Matthew Gauthier of the US Merchant Marine Academy with a 10-6 decision. The junior continued to advance through the bracket with decisions over Hunter's Martin Palomeque (7-3), Wilkes' Conner Sklavounos (7-2) and Roger Williams' Tommy Iasiello (4-2) to punch his ticket to the final. He ultimately yielded a 4-1 decision to regionally-ranked Colton Havens of Cortland, placing him at second place on the podium in the 157-weight class.
 
Sean Hazlett – 157
Hazlett dropped an 18-3 tech fall to Hunter's Marc Kleyman. The first year hung tough against Logan Weaver of the US Merchant Marine Academy, but was ultimately pinned in 3:46.
 
Jordan Bentley – 165
Bentley battled hard in his opening match but was ultimately pinned by Stevens' Bodhi McCormack at 4:38. The sophomore returned with a dominant 20-2 tech fall over Connor Foley of Roger Williams and dropped a 15-2 major decision in his final bout of the McGinley to Anthony Bistany of Stevens.
 
Mason Mordan – 165
Mordan opened the invitational with a tall task against regionally-ranked Tyler Roe of Stevens, who claimed a 13-7 decision. The first year returned to the mat and secured a 6-4 decision against Wilkes' Colton Thorpe before being awarded a victory over Cortland's Gavin Seiler via medical forfeit. Mordan wrapped up his performance by yielding a 7-3 decision to Steven Enamorado-Ortiz of York.
 
Michael Zaunczkowski – 174
Zaunczkowski was pinned by regionally-ranked Anton Puhach of Roger Williams in 1:05. The first year responded with a victory by pinfall over Hunter's Therrol Lafayette in 1:30 before dropping his bout with Andrew Rana of New York University by pinfall in 4:24.
 
Connor Wrobleski – 197
Wrobleski took down Carmine Gerino of Cortland and York's Luca Romasco with pins at 1:22 and 0:58, respectively. He was pinned by the top regionally-ranked Grant Mathias of the US Merchant Marine Academy at 1:34 before recording his third pin of the day on Quincy Bonville of Rochester Institute of Technology in just 58 seconds to earn third place on the podium in the 197-weight class.
 
Jake Bobersky – 197
Bobersky dropped his first match of the day to Rochester Institute of Technology's Quincy Bonville, who pinned the junior in 2:52. He responded with a narrow 7-6 decision over Elliot Black of Wilkes before concluding his outing by falling to regionally-ranked Maxwell Corral of the US Merchant Marine Academy's Maxwell Corral by way of a 7-1 decision.
 
Luke Palladino – 197
Palladino hung tough against regionally-ranked Anthony Derosa of New York University, but was pinned in 2:14. The first year fell to Stevens' Terrence Thomas by way of pinfall in 1:16.
 
Reilly Kirkutis – 197
Kirkutis opened the day with a challenging matchup with the top regionally-ranked Grant Mathias of the US Merchant Marine Academy and was pinned in 1:40. The first year suffered an 11-8 decision to Cortland's Paul Harley to finish the day.
 
Sam Moffet – 285
Moffet battled to a 10-5 decision victory over Carson Queen of York in his first bout of the day. The first year suffered a pair of pinfall losses to the top regionally-ranked Josh Harkless of Rochester Institute of Technology and Wilkes' Nick Doktor in 0:16 and 2:30, respectively.
 
King's will return to the mats on November 15, as select members of the team will compete in the Wilkes Men's Invitational while the rest of the Monarchs travel to Gettysburg for the first duals match of the season against the Bullets.
