PITTSTON, PA (November 14, 2025) -- The King's College men's ice hockey team fell 5-2 to Alvernia University in its home-opening Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) matchup on Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs move to 0-3-0 overall with the same mark in MAC competition, while the Golden Wolves improve to 4-1-0 and 2-1-0 in conference play.
Alvernia opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 4:49 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Golden Wolves continued to threaten on an ensuing power play, however Monarch goaltender
Diego D'Alessandro made several key saves while
Jayden Baldinelli and
Teodor Benno Vaage blocked shots to keep the deficit at a single goal.
King's answered with a power play goal at 13:54.
Shota Kaneko sent a backhanded pass down the boards to Artisom Barashkin at the point. Barashkin fired a long range shot that forced the Alvernia netminder to give up a rebound, which
Grant Parshall buried into the back of the net. Barashkin recorded his first collegiate point with an assist on the play along with Kaneko on Parshall's first goal of the season, which tied the game at 1-1.
Alvernia regained the lead with another short-handed tally at 18:13, sending the Monarchs into the first intermission trailing 2-1.
The second period saw a flurry of offense. The Golden Wolves struck early to make it 3-1, but King's responded at 5:36 as
Cristo Walker converted on an even-strength chance off by banking a shot from behind the goal line off the Golden Wolves' goalie and into the net. Kaneko nothced his second assist of the evening withÂ
Thomas Soucy also picking up a helper on Walker's first of the season, trimming the deficit to one.
The hosts continued to press, generating 13 shots in the frame, but two more Alvernia goals stretched the margin to 5-2 heading into the third.
King's controlled much of the third period, outshooting Alvernia 16-10 and earning a late power play, but could not capitalize as Alvernia sealed the 5-2 win.
The Monarchs finished with 35 shots on goal, 11 blocked shots, and killed four of five Alvernia power plays. Walker and Cristo accounted for the two goals as Kaneko tallied two assists.
Logan Gallagher led the team with nine shots, while Parshall added five attempts. Walker won 12 faceoffs in the circle, followed by
Kevin Martin's seven wins at the dot.
Baldinelli chipped in defensively with three blocks and Vaage Teodor added a pair. In net, D'Alessandro turned aside 27 shots in 59:52 of action, including 10 saves in opening and third frames.
King's returns to action tomorrow afternoon for another MAC matchup on home ice against Alvernia. Puck drop with the Golden Wolves is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Revolution Ice Centre.
