Huffer Qualifies for MAC’s in Monarchs’ Win Against SUNY-Delhi

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 17, 2025) -- The King's College women's swimming team took to the pool inside Scandlon Natatorium for the first time of the season, defeating SUNY-Delhi 91-41 in Saturday's Mental Health Awareness Meet. The Monarchs secured their first win of the season while the Broncos fell to 1-3.
 
Sophomore Mackenzie Huffer won three individual events; qualifying for the MAC Championships in the process. The meet also marked the first sweep under coaches Kellyo Keane and David Rinehimer, as the men's team won their respective match-up with SUNY-Delhi.

The meet began with the 1000-yard freestyle, where Abigayle Cryan posted a winning time of 19:10.65 to earn the first points of the meet for King's. In the 200-yard freestyle, SUNY-Delhi claimed the top two spots, but Cryan added points for the Monarchs with a third-place finish in 3:32.98, followed by Athena Gerlek in fourth at 3:45.83.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Mackenzie Huffer led the way for King's, touching first in 27.32, while teammates Bree Kleinberg and Gerlek placed fourth (45.08) and fifth (46.82) respectively. Huffer continued her strong day in the 200-yard IM, where Stefany Malaga Nunez earned first place with a time of 2:53.49.

Huffer added another victory in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking 1:14.50. Malaga Nunez then picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:08.63, while Gerlek and Kleinberg contributed points with third (1:47.38) and fourth (1:48.58) place finishes.

Huffer claimed her third individual win of the day in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 1:12.89. Cryan returned to the pool for the 500-yard freestyle, where she finished second in 9:27.40 behind SUNY-Delhi's Kaitlynn Ramirez.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Malaga Nunez earned her second victory, posting a time of 1:38.77.

The Monarchs closed the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Gerlek, Malaga Nunez, Cryan, and Huffer combined for a time of 2:27.03.

Women's Swimming returns to the pool on Friday for the three-day Electric City Invitational, hosted by Marywood University. The first event begins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21.
