Last-Minute Goal Dashes Women’s Ice Hockey’s Comeback Against Neumann

PITTSTON, PA (November 21, 2025) -- Despite mounting a ferocious second-period comeback, the King's College women's ice hockey team fell to Neumann University by a score of 3-2 in the team's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest, Friday evening at the Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs fall to 0-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play, while the Knights picked up their first win of the season, advancing to 1-6-0 and 1-4-0 in the MAC.

After falling behind 2-0 midway through the second period, King's stormed back with a pair of goals by Amanda Sokol and Caitlin Dube just 13 seconds apart from each other to pull even with Neumann before yielding the game-winning goal with 37 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Knights struck quickly in the first period, finding the back of the net at 4:23 of the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead. The visitors controlled much of the early play, outshooting King's 13-4 in the period. Goaltender Hayley Packer kept the Monarchs within striking distance, turning aside 12 shots, including a string of five saves in under a minute during sustained pressure by the Knights.

First period defensive efforts were highlighted by a pair of blocks from Eva Goner with Victoria Fleury-Wright, Kiana Dizon also disrupting scoring chances. Emma Heinrich led the offense with two shots in the first frame.

The second period featured the Monarchs' best offensive stretch of the night. After Neumann doubled its lead at 11:19, King's answered on the power play less than a minute later. Sokol lit the lamp on a blistering wrist shot that beat the goaltender's glove off a beautiful cross-ice feed from Abby Barlocker to cut the deficit to 2-1. Barlocker and Munn assisted on Sokol's first of the season at 12:16 on the man advantage.

Just 13 seconds later, Dube tied the game with her first collegiate goal at 12:29. After a clean faceoff win at center ice, a long-range shot from Sami Stead produced a rebound that was buried by Dube. Stead picked up the primary assist with Barlocker notching her second helper of the night to tie the game, 2-2.

Both teams recorded 13 shots in the period as Packer made 11 more saves. Additional blocks from Munn, Dizon and Fleury-Wright helped limit Neumann's scoring opportunities.

The third period was tightly contested, with King's successfully killing two penalties and Packer making 10 saves to keep the game level. The Monarchs managed four shots but could not break through, suffering a tough blow when Neumann scored with 37 seconds remaining. King's called timeout and pulled its goalie for an extra attacker in the closing seconds but could not find the equalizer.

Sokol and Dube found the back of the net for the Monarchs, while Barlocker led the team with two assists. Stead and Munn each added one helper. Heinrich paced the Monarchs with six shots on goal, followed by Stead with four and Barlocker with three.

Defensively, Goner recorded five blocks, Fleury-Wright added four, and Dizon chipped in three. Maddie Vaughan won a team-high 13 faceoffs as Barlocker added nine wins in the circle. Packer finished with 34 saves in 59:36 of action.

King's went 1-for-2 on the power play and killed off both Neumann opportunities. The Monarchs totaled 13 blocked shots and won 26 faceoffs.

King's returns to the Revolution Ice Centre tomorrow for a matinee rematch against the Knights with puck drop slated for 3:00 p.m.
