PITTSTON, PA (November 22, 2025) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team battled hard in Saturday afternoon's Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) contest at the Revolution Ice Centre, but ultimately suffered a 3-0 setback to Neumann University. The Monarchs fall to 0-8-0 overall and 0-6-0 in the MAC, while the Knights won their second-straight game, improving to 2-6-0 and 2-4-0 in conference action.
The opening period featured strong defensive play from King's, with netminder
Hayley Packer turning aside 18 shots to keep the game scoreless for much of the frame. The Monarch penalty kill unit hung tough after the team was assessed a penalty midway through the period, as
Victoria Fleury-Wright contributed a key block while Packer turned aside all four Neumann shots on the man advantage.
Amanda Sokol found herself with a golden scoring opportunity later in the frame, as a centering pass found her stick right in front of the crease. Sokol tipped the puck towards the left post, but the bid was kicked away by the pad of the Knights' goaltender.
Maddie Vaughan had another high-danger scoring chance right off a King's faceoff win that was also turned aside.
Despite a surge in momentum for the Monarchs, the visitors broke through at 17:22 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Neumann contained play to the King's end of the ice for the remaining minutes of the first, but Packer responded with a trio of saves on point-blank attempts to keep the Red and Gold within a goal of tying the game after 20 minutes.
Neumann was awarded a power play 31 seconds into the second period that was successfully killed by King's thanks to three more saves by Packer. The Knights picked up their third man advantage of the afternoon at 6:06 of the middle frame, but a pair of blocks by
Brenna Munn and Fleury-Wright kept the power play unit off the board.
The Monarchs killed off their third minor penalty of the period to keep themselves within striking distance. The Knights found the back of the net with just over five minutes to play in the frame and exited the ice with a 2-0 advantage.
King's generated seven shots and earned a late power-play opportunity in the second and were led by
Abby Barlocker, who recorded a pair of shots in the period. Packer remained sharp, stopping 16 shots in the frame.
Neumann opened the third period with an insurance marker just 20 seconds into play to take a 3-0 lead. The Monarchs continued to push for offense in the third, with Vaughan,
Emma Heinrich,
Sammi Stead,
Melanie Baldwin Van Meer and Jarrett Tietz all testing the opposing goalie.
King's killed off two consecutive penalties thanks to Packer's steady play. The team picked up defensive support from Fleury-Wright, Barlocker and
Caitlin Dube, who combined for several blocks as the Neumann power play unit dropped to 0-6 on the afternoon.
The Monarchs registered 19 shots on goal with Vaughan, Barlocker, Stead and Baldwin Van Meer each tallying three shots in the contest. As a team, King's won 28 of 54 draws with Barlocker and Vaughan leading the way in the faceoff circle with 12 wins each.
Fleury-Wright paced the defense with six blocks as the Monarchs totaled 18 blocks as a team. Packer finished with an impressive 50 saves between the pipes.
Following their Thanksgiving break, King's returns to the Revolution Ice Centre to host Hood College in a MAC showdown at 3:00 p.m. The Monarchs will also honor their six seniors with a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
