ASTON, PA (November 22, 2025) -- The King's College men's ice hockey team earned its first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) point of the season on Saturday evening, taking Neumann University to a 4-4 tie at the IceWorks Skating Complex. The first-place Knights picked up the extra point with a shootout win. The Monarchs advance to 0-5-1 overall with the same record in MAC match-ups, while the Knights move to 5-2-1 on the season and 5-0-1 record in conference play.
Thomas Soucy and
Artsiom Barashkin both made significant offensive contributions, scoring twice for the Monarchs.
Â
Monarch netminder
Diego D'Alessandro was tested early in the contest, turning aside his first shot just 11 seconds into the first period.
Logan Gallagher countered with the first scoring chance of the evening for King's before Neumann gained momentum after being awarded a power play at 8:28.
Â
Despite a pair of saves by D'Alessandro, the Knights capitalized on the man advantage to take a 1-0 lead just under the midway point of the first period. Neumann continued to mount offensive pressure, drawing a second power play in the process. Blocks by
Kevin Martin, and
Braydon Buckingham along with several key saves by D'Alessandro kept the Monarchs within a goal of leveling the score.
Â
Soucy produced the best scoring chance for King's thus far when he was hauled down on a breakaway at 12:31 to draw a penalty shot. On the one-on-one showdown, he methodically snaked his way from the far right side of the ice towards goal before switching to his backhand in an attempt to roof the puck over the Neumann goaltender, who denied the bid to preserve the Knights' one-goal advantage.
Â
King's was assessed another minor penalty at the 15:17 mark of the first frame, bringing the penalty kill unit back onto the ice. The Knights generated three shots on goal during the power play; all of which were stopped by D'Alessandro.
Â
Neumann struck again shortly after the Monarchs successfully killed another penalty to build their lead to 2-0.
Â
The two-goal advantage for the Knights was short-lived, as Soucy lit the lamp 18 seconds after the 2-0 marker to cut the King's deficit to one. Buckingham broke the puck out of the defensive zone by chipping a puck off the glass and past a Neumann defender at the blue line.
Grant Parshall beat the defender to the puck in the offensive zone and centered a pass for Soucy, whose deke pulled the goalie out of position and allowed him to bury the puck into the open goal. Parshall and Buckingham picked up assists on Soucy's first of the season at 17:50.
Â
Following an eventful end to the first 20 minutes of play, Kings trailed 2-1.
Â
King's opened the middle frame on an abbreviated power play before the Knights drew a pair of penalties to flip momentum back in their favor. The Monarch defense continued to battle, as D'Alessandro made six saves before surrendering a power play goal at 9:45 as Neumann built their lead back up to two.
Â
After a three-on-two zone entry produced a pair of high-quality scoring chances for King's, Baraskin pulled the Monarchs back within one on a screaming no-angle shot from the goal line. Gallagher and
Zane Burleigh were credited with helpers on Barashkin's first goal of his collegiate career at 11:46, bringing the score to 3-2 in favor of Neumann.
Â
A series of penalties tilted the ice in favor of the Knights, who rattled off several shots in search of an insurance goal. D'Alessandro stood tall, making a trio of saves and received some help from
Emil Pyyhtia, who blocked a fourth attempt.
Â
The Monarchs leveled the score at 16:17 of the second period when Soucy crashed the net and tipped a feed from Martin past the Neumann netminder. Martin and Barashkin assisted on Soucy's second goal of the game, which knotted the contest at 3-3.
Â
The parade to the penalty box continued as the hosts got the gate for interference with 1:13 remaining in the period. While on the power play, King's drew another call to go on a brief five-on-three advantage; establishing quality zone time and getting solid looks on the man advantage.
Â
On the power play, the Monarchs won a faceoff back to
Landon Bechtolt at the point. The defenseman sent a cross-ice pass to his partner Barashkin, who fired a shot through traffic that beat Neumann's goalie and sailed into the back of the net to give King's their first lead of the evening at 19:27. Bechtolt picked up the lone assist on Barashkin's second lamp light of the night that sent the team into the final frame in possession of a 4-3 lead .
Â
The third period opened with King's pushing hard to regain the lead, winning early faceoffs and generating chances.
Jayden Baldinelli fired two quick shots, one blocked and another stopped by the Neumann goaltender, while D'Alessandro continued his stellar play with saves on point-blank attempts.
Â
King's earned back-to-back power plays starting at 3:20, allowing the Monarchs to pepper the net with shots from Parshall, Gallagher, and Barashkin.
Â
Momentum shifted at 7:43, when Neumann capitalized on an even-strength opportunity to knot the score at 4-4. The Monarchs responded with urgency, drawing multiple penalties and creating sustained pressure during a late power play. Gallagher and Bechtolt each had quality looks with Barashkin adding another chance at 17:11, but King's couldn't find the go-ahead goal. D'Alessandro closed the frame with several key stops, including a save in the final minute, sending the game to overtime deadlocked.
Overtime opened with King's immediately on the defensive after a holding penalty just seven seconds in, giving Neumann a two-minute power play. The Monarchs leaned on D'Alessandro, who turned aside multiple shots during the kill, including chances from the slot and point.
Â
After returning to even strength, King's called a timeout at 3:04 to regroup, but Neumann continued to press, hitting the post at 4:21 before D'Alessandro made another key stop. King's managed one late look from Gallagher which was denied, sending the game to a shootout.
Â
Both goaltenders were perfect through the first round of the shootout before Barashkin bested the Knights' netminder. Neumann responded with a goal of their own in the third round to keep the game alive. The Knights scored in the fifth round to take the extra point with a 2-1 shootout victory, while King's came out of the contest with their first MAC point of the season.
Â
Soucy and Barashkin powered the offense with a pair of goals each. As a team, the Monarchs recorded 30 shots and were led by Gallagher's six attempts. Barashkin followed closely behind with five. Parshall was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 21 of 35 draws at the dot.
Â
It was a penalty-heavy contest as both teams combined for 19 infractions, with the Monarchs converting on one of eight opportunities and killing nine Neumann man advantages.
Â
Defensively, Pyyhtia and
Bennett Anklewich led the team with two blocks apiece. D'Alessandro finished the game with 46 saves in net.
Â
The Monarchs return home to the Revolution Ice Centre on Tuesday, November 25 to host Misericordia University in a 7:00 p.m. MAC showdown.
