WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 8, 2025) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team surrendered a 5-0 result to nationally-ranked Wilkes University in their home opener, Saturday afternoon t at the Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs drop to 0-4-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in MAC play.
Wilkes got on the board 6:24 into the first period with a power play goal from a King's tripping penalty to take a 1-0 lead.
Abby Barlocker (2),
Sammi Stead,
Alexis Jones, and
Maddie Vaughan all won faceoffs for King's and Barlocker recorded the Monarchs' lone shot of the period. Wilkes peppered
Will McPherson, who turned away 22 of Wilkes' 23 attempts. Late in the frame, King's successfully killed a minor penalty before taking a man advantage into the break off of a Wilkes tripping penalty.
King's opened up the second period with faceoff wins by
Abby Barlocker and
Maddie Vaughan (2). The Monarchs kept the pressure on in the offensive zone with shots from
Jerrett Tietz, Stead, and Barlocker within the first minute of play.
The penalty kill unit did their job as they successfully killed a Wilkes' man advantage at the 15:00 mark. McPherson stayed busy, facing 26 shots in the period.
Wilkes added their second goal of the contest at 15:49 from Gianna Pacilio, assisted by Renee Ng. Vaughan won a pair of important faceoffs before Wilkes notched another goal, this time from Haylee Bouchard with three minutes to go in the period.
Kiana Dizon won a faceoff of her own before the break.
To start the third, Barlocker,
Riley Kumrow, Jones, and Vaughan all won faceoffs to take pressure off McPherson who continued to turn away shots. With 10:41 to play, King's received a powerplay from a Wilkes interference call. Another Wilkes penalty gave the Monarchs a man advantage with 5:32 to play. Barlocker (2) and Vaughan each won faceoffs before Wilkes netted two more goals from Nina Hudakova and Ng and as the period came to a close, with Wilkes taking this one 5-0.
King's goaltender
Will McPherson posted a .932 save percentage, stopping 69 of Wilkes' 74 shots. Stead, Barlocker, Tietz, and Vaughan all recorded shots on goal for the Monarchs.
Caitlin Dube led the team with six of the 29 total blocked shots, while Vaughan won a team-high seven draws in the faceoff circle.
The Monarchs return to action on Friday, November 14 with a MAC matchup against Alvernia. Faceoff against the Golden Wolves is slated for 6:00 p.m.
