GRANTHAM, PA (December 5, 2025)— The King's College wrestling team opened competition at day one of the Petrofes Invitational on Friday, hosted by Messiah University. The Monarchs were led by strong performances from
Patrick Horvath,
Cole Anderson, and
Jacob Hachtmann, each securing a spot among the final eight in their respective weight classes to advance into Saturday's action.
Patrick Horvath – 125
The senior began his day with a technical fall win against Thaddeus Stevens' Gavin Renard, 15-0, at the 3:13 mark. Fourth-seeded Horvath then followed this up with a 6-0 decision win against Averett's Georgios Sezenias before dropping his first matchup of the day against Shenandoah's Anakin Burks. Horvath then responded with a big win against Gettysburg's Tank Spelta to advance to Saturday. He will face off against Alvernia's Rocco Monteferrante tomorrow as the highest seed left in the consolation bracket.
Sid O'Donnell – 125
O'Donnell began his day with a tough challenge, top seeded and nationally 13
th ranked Adrian Rosas of Adrian, who defeated O'Donnel via major decision. The first year then finished his tournament with a hard fought 3-2 decision loss too Adrian's Jordan Ovalle.
Freddy Steigerwalt – 125
Steigerwalt fell in his first matchup of the day by technical fall against Bridgewater State's Sei Dolomengi before concluding his day by fall at 1:27 to Tank Spelta of Gettysburg.
Cole Anderson – 133
Anderson started his day on a high note with consecutive wins, the first by major decision against Messiah's Chris Brooks and the second in a 6-5 decision against Springfield's Alec Oberc. The senior then dropped a 14-4 major decision against regionally ranked Jacob Venenzia from NYU before earning a 16-1 tech. fall victory over St. Vincent's Logan Connelly to Advance to Saturday. He is set to take on Messiah's Tyler Ratledge tomorrow with a chance to win his way to third place.
Christian Borges – 133
The first year suffered an injury in his matchup with seventh seeded Torey Falkinburg in a 16-4 major decision loss, forcing a forfeit against Messiah's Corbin Hutchinson.
Kevon Griffin – 133
Griffin lost by fall to third seeded Esuar Ordonez of Springfield and was injured in the matchup, resulting in a medical forfeit against Gettysburg's Peyton Reese.
Angel Avalos – 141
Avalos dropped his opening matchup in a narrow 10-7 decision to Arcadia's Malik Barkor. The sophomore followed this up with back-to-back wins, including a pin at 3:38 against Thaddeus Stevens' Jordan Eisenhauer and a 4-2 decision against Averett's Wyatt Parker. Avalos concluded his day in the consolation quarterfinals against regionally ranked Sean Rinebolt of Shenandoah, losing by fall at 1:09.
Brian Hopkins – 149
In his first matchup of the day, Hopkins fought hard in a 8-2 decision loss against Messiah's Daniel Pierce. Hopkins bounced back in his next bout, taking down 10
th seeded Benjamin Hankinson of Bridgewater State. The junior ended his day getting pinned by Gettysburg's Kyle Collins late in the third period.
Conor Knight – 157
Knight dropped an 18-3 tech. fall to eighth seeded Mikey Holler of Messiah before responding with an 11-2 major decision victory against Gettysburg's Justin Musmanno. The first year concluded his day with a major decision loss, 14-4, to Messiah's Jason Craig.
Sean Hazlett – 157
Hazlett opened the tournament, falling to NYU's Ethan Rothman in a back and forth, 18-10 major decision. He then dropped his next match to Messiah's Garret Fowler by fall at 4:02.
MJ Turi – 157
The junior led off his tournament with a loss to Brandon Flores-Salazar, 11-1 by major decision. Turi then rattled off three straight victories, the first by fall at 3:56 against James Brady of Thaddeus Stevens and the next two by technical fall against Alex Guaman Castro of Bridgewater State (20-4) and Conlan Boyer of Gettysburg (21-5). His tournament concluded in the consolation quarterfinals with a major decision loss to nationally 15
th ranked and third-seeded Clay Gainer.
Jordan Bentley - 165
Bentley battled hard but was taken down by nationally ninth-ranked Keegan Demarest of Messiah before concluding his day in a tightly contested 12-7 decision loss to Greensboro's Nicholas Menjivar.
Alex Ballantyne – 174
Ballantyne dropped an 11-1 major decision to Adrian's Angelo Mastroianni. The senior then suffered a 14-0 major decision setback against host Messiah's Nick Montanye.
Jacob Hachtmann – 174
In his first match of the day, Hachtmann took down Adrian's Landon Amaya by fall just 59 seconds into the first round. He then went on to defeat Joe Dietz of Gettysburg before dropping his first matchup of the tournament to Christian Diola of NYU. With a chance to advance to Saturday, Hachtmann seized the opportunity with a 12-5 decision win against Muhlenberg's Noah Schlofer. The junior is set to take on Alvernia's William Knapp with hopes to wrestle his way back to third place.
Reilly Kirkutis – 184
Kirkutis opened his day with an 8-0 major decision loss to Gabriel Lesher from Thaddeus Stevens. In his second and final match of the day, the first year was pinned by NYU's Matt Dickey in 2:02.
Josh Brown – 197
Brown dropped his opening match 10-4 by major decision against regionally ranked and sixth seeded Isaiah Manning of Greensboro. The junior then concluded his day in a 12-0 major decision loss against Messiah's Sergio Garcia.
Luke Palladino – 197
Palladino led off his day with a loss by fall to Gettysburg's Phil Nave before dropping his second matchup in a hard fought 14-6 major decision against Messiah's Isaiah Durham.
Jacob Lance - HWT
Lance faced a tall task in his opening match, regionally ranked and fourth seeded Nate Faxon from NYU, who won by fall in the first round. The first year fought hard but was ultimately pinned by Billy Antippas of Gettysburg at 3:56 in his second match.
Sam Moffett – HWT
Moffett opened his tournament with a tough task, regionally ranked Blake Daniels of Adrian, who defeated Moffett 12-4 vis major decision. The first year then concluded his day with a loss by fall to Bryan Guzman of Shenandoah at in the fist period.
Horvath, Anderson and Hachtmann will kick off action for day two of the Petrofes Invitational on Saturday, December 6
th at 9:30 a.m.
