Monarchs Fall to York on Saturday Afternoon

WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 1, 2025) -- The King's College wrestling team fell to the York (PA) Spartans 15-28 on Saturday afternoon in the Scandlon Auxiliary Gymnasium.
 
Patrick Horvath took on Jacob DelVecchio at 125 in a close matchup but lost in a 2-1decision due to a riding time point. At 133, Cole Anderson was defeated by Vincent Paolucci in a 6-0 decision. Nick Germano fell to Jacob Gryzbek in a 12-0 major decision at 141. Jacob Torres worked hard through three periods against David Vacca at 149 but ultimately lost in a 19-3 technical fall. After accumulating five takedowns and two escapes, Shane Kibler put the Monarchs on the board with a 17-7 major decision win over Frank Gulli at 157.
 
Nick Costello maintained the momentum with a single takedown to start the 165 matchup against Connor Dube and pinned the Spartan in 0:46. Jacob Hachtmann recorded a victory at 174 by producing six takedowns to gain a 19-4 technical fall. Devon O'Dell was awarded a win due to a forfeit by King's.  At 197, Jake Bobersky had a close-knit battle against Owen Dixon and came up short with a 7-6 decision loss. Richard Fronheiser fell to Derek Martin in a 9-6 decision at heavyweight.
 
The Monarchs had four exhibition matches in Saturday's meeting with York. Angel Avalos dropped Joel DeyFreytas in 6:08 at 141. Coltyn Sepko pinned Devon O'Dell in 1:25 at 174. At heavyweight, Ryan Tran was defeated by Luca Romasco in a 17-1 technical fall. Khalil Blagmon produced five takedowns in the first period to help secure a 17-8 major decision win over Hank Farrell at heavyweight.
 
King's will have a quick turnaround as they will compete at the Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Invitational on Sunday, February 2nd at Lycoming with a start time of 10:30 a.m. The squad will continue on the road with a matchup against Cortland at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 6th.
