WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 15, 2025) -- A defensive battle ensued in McGrane Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, but the visiting Stevens Institute of Technology came out on top as the King's College men's basketball team lost, 55-41, in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match up. The Monarchs now stand at 10-11 overall and 5-7 in the standings, while the Ducks improved to 17-6 with a 9-3 conference mark.
Â
It was a low-scoring contest from the start. Stevens (17-6, 9-3 MAC Freedom) led by as many as eight, 12-4, with 11:47 remaining, before King's (10-11, 5-7 MAC Freedom) got back-to-back threes from
Matt Christian and
Sean Forrest before
Devin Kimmick rattled off five points to take a 15-12 edge with 3:37 to go. The score was tied twice down the stretch, but a triple by
Chris Patton with 53 ticks to go put the Monarchs back on top, 20-17, heading into the locker room.
Â
After trading scores to start the second, the Ducks took advantage of a scoring drought by the Monarchs as they went on a 16-0 run over the next 5:54 of action to jump ahead, 35-22. The Monarchs had an answer as they had their own 9-3 spurt to make it a seven-point game, 38-31, with 6:07 to play, but they would not get any closer down the stretch as Stevens held on to hand King's the 55-41 setback on senior day in McGrane Gymnasium.
Â
Patton led the scoring with 10 points, adding three rebounds, two assists, two blocks, while
Garrett Burys had nine rebounds, eight points, two assists, and two blocks. Forrest came off the bench to add eight points with four caroms and a block, while both
Jake Karnish and Kimmick totaled five points a piece.
Â
Kyle Maddison led all scorers with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Jack Spellman pulled down 13 rebounds with two blocks and five points.
Â
King's had 12 assists on their 15 field goals and committed just eight turnovers in the game, while the defense limited Stevens to 29.4% from the floor and 21.9% from three.
Â
The Monarchs are set to host Lebanon Valley College in their final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night in McGrane Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
